Re: Cinnamon File Search

In Windows 7, when you click on the "Start" icon, there is a search facility that states "Search programs (sic) and files". In Linux Mint 18, when you click on the "Menu" icon, there is a search facility at the top of the menu index that fulfills the same function. Is that missing from your install...

Re: Cinnamon File Search

Do you mean the file search window at the top of the Cinnamon Menu? There is also a file search option in Nemo, activated by a click on the magnifier icon. If you highlight a particular folder, the search will be conducted within that folder. There is also the "automatic" search from the Desktop, a...

Cosmo. wrote:"Enable filesystem path entry in search box"
Thanks Cosmo, but I tried that and that only adds ability to search a directory like "/use/bin" etc etc.

Not search files directly.

It's alright I will just get used to using synapse for file search.
Maybe in future Cinnamon will have search function.

Re: Linux Mint Project

I also feel that the Mint project is a wonderful thing. I don't know enough to be on the development team, but I do try to give something back to the community by helping others with problems they might have. Linux and open source software is a community effort. Jimallyn, that is more than enough a...

Cinnamon File Search

Hello, Not sure if this has been asked before... In windows 7 start menu has inbuilt file search in search bar not just for finding software but also files, like documents, resume, budget files, etc. KDE plasma has this out of the box but cinnamon doesn't. I understand alot of people wouldn't want t...

Linux Mint Project

Hello Community! Just want to say it's quite exciting reading the roadmap and seeing all the work Clem, the mint team and every developer is working on with Linux Mint. As a project leader, Clem has to be the most approachable up there with Martin "wimpy" Wimpress. What I mean is they both answer qu...

Re: Why I still prefer Windows over Linux

Also, you don't have to like a new UI, Windows, Linux, or otherwise. Just like Linux, you are free to change your UI in Windows and OSx. There are a ton of 3rd party UI's for almost every OS. Sorry to nitpick but i am genuinely interested in this statement. What are these "ton of 3rd party UI...

Re: System Crashing

Have you tried another browser like Google Chrome? Then test YouTube to see if it works and doesn't crash. I'm not sure what else to suggest at the moment sorry. Can you watch videos on other websites like movie websites or Netflix or something else other than YouTube? Netflix works best with Google...

Ease up @tech freak. Pjotr has made an excellent and resourceful website. He is a very welcome person in this community. What have you done? Also for the record, about anti virus programs, I don't care if it's Norton, avast, McAfee or AVG, they all use up loads resources, sometimes ruining wi...

Re: Don't be boring - add an avatar!

I don't have a real life but I hear him on the GIFs and things that flash at me. I see firefox has some add ons that are supposed to stop them but I'm not sure if they stop the avatars from flashing too. True animated pics are annoying, but. GIF and a static avatar are completely different. I don't...

Your wife sounds much like my wife and probably many other people's wives. They want it to work. They don't care if its windows Linux DOS or even Mac osx. We have one computer at home now, I made the decision 6 years ago just before we got married to switch entirely to Linux (FYI it was Mint 11 :win...

Pretty much all future laptops will have touchscreens. Time to start thinking about optimizing and improving that experience. True but what if your like me and only use a desktop PC? Laptops are personally not my thing. Don't worry like I said earlier, Ubuntu have their sights set on touch and that...

Re: Desktop Manager designed for touchscreens

Thanks, haven't used KDE for egads, will check into it. Am surprised how often I use the touchscreen as at first I didn't think I'd use it. Typically when laptop is in my lap or on belly and while web browsing. Even with the high resolution/small buttons it's very usable. And it's great for scrolli...
