Re: Mint Mobile OS ?

"The difference is here on the Mint forums, most of us are new and not programmers by any means. Alot of us (I am included here) have never used the command line. We are here for desktop simplicity. Desktop simplicity is what has allowed Mint to flourish in the linux userbase." - citizen229 (Sorry a...

Re: Mint Mobile OS ?

I hope they don't focus on mobile. One thing I admire and love about Clem and the developers working on Linux Mint, is the focus to stick to the traditional desktop. Let ubuntu get side tracked and go to mobile (look at the quality or lack of in the unity desktop as they worry about convergence and ...

Re: Very Refreshing - My First taste of Mint

"I had a problem with wifi dropping on it and found a solid working solution to it here on these forums which in itself is refreshing as I am quite accustomed to the Ubuntu community who either never want to help you, or they post half-baked solutions or when you do get answered it's always rather s...

Re: The absolute newbie!

Your very welcome! I know i mentioned using cinnamon, it will work i put it on my sister in laws old PC, however i would also recommend the "XFCE" desktop to use. I would advise avoiding Cinnamon. It will be a much smoother and stable experience for you. Sorry for the confusion. :) You said: " Going...

Re: Linux Mint Arch Edition?

So in a nutshell... your thinking of a rolling unstable unpredictable arch like version of Linux Mint? I doubt that would happen, we already have Arch Linux. It would be reinventing the wheel i would think as well.. Manjaro do a great job, to be honest i think its the "Mint of the Arch Linux world"....

Re: The absolute newbie!

Hello "eritromycin"! Everyone has pretty much answered your questions so i am a bit late to the party. Your PC is fine for Linux Mint 64bit versions, Cinnamon, XFCE, and MATE would all work well i would assume. KDE desktop may struggle and play up but not too sure. Definitely recommend Linux Mint. :...

Hello!

To activate Linux.. simply turn your PC on and use it.

Unlike Windows, you have a fully functional computer once installed! :)

Re: Cinnamon 3.0.7 takes about 57 sec to load !

Hello, I might be wrong but installing and uninstalling desktop environments and not doing a minty fresh clean install could be the problem... Maybe your PC is taking longer as cinnamon wasn't a clean install. I do think though that I could be wrong, maybe someone more experienced than myself could ...

Re: So called lightweight Linux distros...

The dictionary meaning*** for "lightweight distro" is: KDE plasma 5.8 Neon with all plasmoids, widgets and gadgets, with all kwin effects enabled, definitely things like desktop cube and the like. Transparency? On, everywhere. Of course you could just settle for GNOME 3.22 Fedora. *** This may intac...

Completely agree here!

No chance that Microsoft can own Linux.
Not even Canonical can.

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

The computer is not just a play thing Maybe it's not just a play thing, but for me it's important to have fun using it. I want to learn how it works. That's the important stuff. I don't mind if it breaks from time to time, as I learn in the process of fixing it. That's the reason behind using Linux...
