Re: Linus mint 6 boot order

grub, the boot-up manager, uses the /boot/grub/menu.lst file for the boot menu, and loads the configurations in order so just find the block with a title of Windows in it, and move it to the top of the list, just after the "end default options" line. I recommend taking a back-up of this fi...

Re: How To Create Aliases?

I'm pretty sure that Mint doesn't load .bash_aliases by default. You could put a "source .bash_aliases" line in .bashrc, but I've found it easier to just add the aliases right to .bashrc, as Mint also doesn't add any bloat to this file either.

I think 3.0.8 fixes the critical security hole exploited at cansecwest, so yes it's an important upgrade, and these upgrade *usually* happen without a hitch, so I'd stick with them. I'd try these actions in succession, re-opening firefox inbetween to check if it's fixed: restart firefox; logout (res...

I know that most of the questions I had when initially trying to contribute could be easily solved by a quick question in irc (assuming anyone was actually in the channel, but that's a feedback issue). For instance I found the blog post ...

Re: Audio Converter

I've never had any problems with sox, a CLI, but if you want a gui, you might want to try audacity

Re: Homefolder files is on desktop and can't be moved

Losing your Desktop folder is a relatively common mistake (I did it just yesterday), and I think mintDesktop should have a way to restore it. The solution is to recreate your Desktop folder, and tell gnome to use it when you log in by editing the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs: mkdir ~/Desktop sed -i...

Re: Changing The Mint Assistant Fortunes...

I changed the fortunes to only BOFH ones using: sudo apt-get remove fortunes-min sudo apt-get install fortunes-bofh-excuses fortunes-min is the default package containing the default set of fortunes, there are many other fortunes-* packages you could experiment with. Check out "man fortune"...
