Re: Mint 17 ISO Stole my Mint 16 GRUB

I do not know if this is related but ....... I have spent most of the previous night and early hours this morning working on a similar problem: After I install Linux Mint 17 Mate on the hard drive (sda) I can not longer boot from ANY Linux Mint install media. When I say "any" that includes Sata DVD,...

Re: VMPlayer and VirtualBox on same Machine

....can't you export the disk images to another format the is readable by VirtualBox? Actually VirtualBox can read the VMware VMDK disk files but the the Virtual Box disk utilities will not work on them. There are actually two problems with importing/converting the VMDK files to VDI files: 1) There...

VMPlayer and VirtualBox on same Machine [Sort of Resolved]

I have decided to upgrade from Microsoft Windows to Linux Mint. I have been working with Linux Mint 17 X64 (Mate desktop environment) for about a month now (configuration details listed below) . I have most things working like I want them and have come down to to three (hopefully) final 'newbie' que...

I´ve installed Linux Mint 17 Mate 32 bit dual booted with Windows 7 which has dual monitors. What do I need to do to achieve dual monitors operation with Linux Mint 17? :D From the Mate menu: Preferences, Monitors From the terminal Window: mate-display-properties This will bring up a GUI applicatio...

Re: Easier transition for a windows user ?

...someone coming in from Windows should be able to find there way around about as quickly as someone moving from, say Windows XP to 7. The differences between those two Windows systems are as great, if not greater, than the differences between DEs and file managers for Linux . Possibly one of the ...

NIC: Marvell Yukon 88E8056

I have two machines that I am trying to setup with Linux Mint OS (17). They are Lenovo ThinkCentre M57e 6305 Desktop ( model: MT-M 6305-B6U ). The motherboard network Interface is Marvell Yukon 88E8056 that supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet. When Linux Mint is first installed the NI...

Re: Alternate Email Client (RTF Emails)

Thank you for the suggestions.
I am now using Thunderbird with the Lookout.
It appears the one thing that it can not handle is inline graphics.
Otherwise it deals fairly well with Outlook RTF emails.

I will likely have to keep a Windows7 virtual machine to deal with this problem.

Alternate Email Client (RTF Emails)

OK .. I understand that the usual solution is to ask the user to resend the email in a different format but ... PLAIN TEXT allows no formatting options or pictures or graphics. HTML format sucks because it insert extra lines all over the place. The concept of installing Wine and MS Office on linux j...

Thank thee :D for the record ... 1) Enable SMB sharing via “services” 2) Add user “guest” with password “password” --- do NOT require password 3) Login as guest to allow system to create various sub-directories 4) Share directory “/home/guest” as “guest” with full rights to via SMB Note that this is...

Re: Samba Share -- no user, no domain, no workgroup

OK --- it turns out all my problems are with the firewall: sudo ufw disable (Seems silly to to enable SMB shares via services only to have it blocked by the firewall). But there should be a better solution than that ... Next question --- is there a GUI for the firewall or do I need to edit some conf...

Samba Share -- no user, no domain, no workgroup [SOLVED]

Is it possible to create a simple shared directory without the need for a username, password, workgroup or domain ?
YES it might be considered a security breach for a major corporate but I am looking a simple home network with a single user.
