Re: ShutDown Vbox before Shutting down Linux

I am building the system for another user.
It needs to use the standard UI.

This is the command to shut it down (gracefully):
virtualbox controlvm Windows7 acpipowerbutton

Re: ShutDown Vbox before Shutting down Linux

I think that I can write the script to shutdown windows and the virtual box .... I just need to know where to put it so that it gets executed when Mint starts to shut down. You Tube video demo: https://youtu.be/Obqn7ZjFN0g This is a short demo of a multi-boot system with Windows 7, Linux Mint 19 Tar...

ShutDown Vbox before Shutting down Linux [solved] :-)

I have Windows 7 running as a virtual machine in seamless mode via Oracle VirtualBox with raw disk access. Tis working so well that I may abandon VMware WorkStation. I have one little nitpicking problem left: When I shutdown Linux Mint, I need it to shutdown the Vbox Windows 7 virtual machine first....

Re: Grub 2 with OS on 2 Hard drives?

Maybe it is not the place and the time to make such recommendation if, as I suspect , Palladini , is trying to solve problems caused by a tool like that. Any way, you are not telling Pallidini how to configure GCustomizer in order to get back os-prober results in GRUB menu. Think only for a ...

Re: Grub 2 with OS on 2 Hard drives?

I am going to offer an alternate solution I have been using. I have a system with three drives. Windows 7 and Linux Mint 19 are installed on the first drive (SSD) in their own dedicated partitions (/dev/sda). The second drive is a NTFS formatted drive dedicated to user data visible to both those OSs...

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons

... In my case, mp4 files are displayed with a still image from the within the file. ... Seen that somewhere. I think that there is a setting to use "Thumbnails" rather than "Icons". I understand the appeal however I do not want Caja to have to did out a image from every file in order to display a ...

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons

True that the icons can/do change according to the current theme. ... but the mime type icon associated with the video files still point to the original application. That is true even if you use the "mate-default-applications-properties" application. I can change it for a single file but I happen to...

Preferred applications, file Icons

There are a couple of ways to change the preferred application for a particular file type (two that I know of) however the Icon used by the those files does NOT get changed. I use VLC for all my video files (which are mostly mp4) but they all still show that really ugly icon from media player. Now I...

Re: Mate-Screensaver Pictures Folder --- another folder

Thank thee gm10 Seeing as how I have the Ubuntu Mate computer sitting her, I just copied the 'Cosmos' desktop configuration file from it. Mate-Screensaver Pictures Folder --- another folder [solved]

reference command line: mate-screensaver-preferences I was working on a Ubuntu-Mate installation and used the Cosmos screensaver. In the process I added some 60 odd pictures. So I said to myself: "Self, you should save those files and use them on you Linux Mint Mate desktop." Sadly that is NOT an op...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

... snip... #!/bin/sh /bin/sh is the system default shell, which is actually dash in LM19. It's much more lightweight than bash, so unless you need specific bash functionality you should stick to the default. The reason I can be lazy in shell scripts and do without is because if it doesn't find one...

/usr/bin/pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY HOME=$HOME PWD=$PWD $@ I know this is going to be a really stupid question but ...... Re: Ubuntu Advantage Tools [solved]

My problems were: 1) I did not know what it was 2) Did not want something that I might eventually have to pay for 3) Was not open source I have a better understanding of what it is although I probably do not need it and will likely never use it. It is not something that I will ever have to pay for b...

Re: LM19: enable remote access (RDP)

I posted a similar question. Linux Mint previously used "Vino" for "Desktop Sharing" which was based on an implementation of VNC. They seemed to have dropped it. If you are really set on using RDP then I believe FreeRDP has both a server and client that you can install. I settled on using NoMachine ...

Re: Ubuntu Advantage Tools

why do i need them? mint 17.3 was fine without the advantage of Canonical, why now it's mandatory? I could be wrong (it happened once before) but Linux Mint is based (aka dependent) on Canonical's Ubuntu. Having said that there might be some question as to these proprietary Canonical Advantage prog...
