Re: Tranferring Windows 7 partition to different PC...

No, you can only run a Windows system in the computer where it was installed. It's a deliberate technical restriction; the software just won't run in a different environment. True for an OEM license but Windows with a retail license can be moved to a different hardware (although it is not a simple ...

Re: Can we run Win7 in a VM inside Linux?

I like linux & want to be a linux full-timer BUT..... too many times for too many reasons i need to access win 7. But this rebooting is a killer. Can I run linux as my goto OS with win7 buzzing around inside a VM within linux rather than the other way round? Totally agree ... I run Windows 7 as VMw...

Re: QT GUI style: GTK+

OK, but if I check the properties of your underlined text strings, I see http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=187953&p=973414#p973414 --that's the first underlined string, however if I directly enter that string into a browser, it just j8umps back to these posts.. OK ... beats the heck...

Re: QT GUI style: GTK+

None of your hyperlinks are selectable to jump to the page.. There are no hyperlinks. That thread string is from mailing list ( I just underlined the date/time, author ). My project is actually a QT project. I believe that GTK+ is only brought into play by the QT Gui style which seems to be the def...

QT GUI style: GTK+

I have had a couple of problems with GAMBAS and the QT GUI style: 'GTK+'. The problems were resolved by switching the style to 'Windows' ... however I find that style and the others that are available somewhat unappealing. Questions: Is there a source for addition style plugins? Is there a utility t...

Re: NFS Configuration Problems

I have not great love for NFS but I do not trust MS. The overriding corporate ethic is "profit". I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. Profit pays salaries so people can buy things and pay taxes and so on. True enough but when profit is the MOST IMPORTANT thing then people tend to be sacrifi...

Re: NFS Configuration Problems

I have not great love for NFS but I do not trust MS. The overriding corporate ethic is "profit". I can well imagine them at some point in time adding something to the specification that requires a 'certificate of conformance' available only from MS (remind you of anything?) . For now NFS works for m...

Re: NFS Configuration Problems

That has nothing to do with Samba or Apples home grown smb2/smbx. You didn't read my post. It doesn't really matter. the OP isn't reading any of these posts either. Samba is just a file sharing protocol folks. You can remove the evil Windows specific parts if you want or not use it at all. Don't ma...

Re: NFS Configuration Problems

... you may as well use Samba + a Linux server, to manage your connections and files... If one has use MS protocol then why bother with setting up SMB emulation on a Linux server. Just setup a Windows server and be done with the problem. To clarify my position: I like and use LInux. I no longer hav...

Let me try it agin... WHY DOES AN ORGANIZATION WHICH USES LINUX TO CREATE A WORKING WINDOWS APPLICATION SEEM TO BE UNABLE TO CREATE A WORKING LINUX EQUIVALANT? Or try handbrake, which I believe is in the Mint repositories. Affirmative. I recently went through testing ffmpeg, libav, vlc and handbrake. I settled on using handbrake to produce mp4 files as it consistently produced the overall best results and performance. (it is however not my choice for capt...

Re: Why still no automatic updates..?

Automatic updates are fine if one has unlimited bandwidth (which of course the good folks at Microsoft assume). However one of the reason some people prefer Linux is that Updates are not required or implemented by default.
