Re: Is there a way to flash bios from mint

From what i've seen before, if you've got a defective device (boot drive, bad cd, etc), trying to get to the bios settings can be a challenge because said defective devices will cause a time out error that cannot be recovered from on boot. This is not an O/S fault. You may have a hardware error (as...

Hi, Can you please give more information of what happened with the win 8 dvd? Did it give a boot error before booting mint? Did it look like it was going to boot from the dvd, then stop? Do you know that the machine can definitely run win 8? What are you computer specs? In a terminal in mint run: u...

Re: how to create bootable external USB hard disk drive

Are your trying to make a bootable ext USB HD using an ISO? - OR - Are you trying to install a working (persistent) OS on the external HD? I wouldn't waste my time trying to burn an ISO onto a HD - too much "wasted" space and physically too large when a USB stick would suffice. You can install Mint...

Re: when is the release date of mint 17.2 rufxxx

Edit by Clem: It’s too soon to say. Usually it would happen around the end of May. Similar to 17.1 it should be a smooth release but it might be postponed to get more content/features. I’ll post updates when it’s clearer to us what goes into this release and what doesn’t. http://blog.linuxmint.com/...

Re: how to update to latest kernel 3.17.4

Thanks but you never mentioned what command to update the kernel That's because Update Manager is a GUI tool and not a command line tool... UMK.png Since mint is based on ubantu and debian I think the best bet is upgrading to the stable version of kernels that debian use what do you say about that.
