Re: Flatpak telegram says "as superuser"

Well bugs like that don't give me much confidence in flatpaks, hope they can get that ironed out.

Re: Flatpak telegram says "as superuser"

Ya I uninstalled a MMO game client because of that, so all flatpaks run as root? Who thought that up?

OKAY, I dont know what does this mean but here you go, the fun part: Code: Select all Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed. (EE) Server terminated with error (2). Closing log file. In order for the nvidia card to work you need the nouveau driver ...

Re: Gimp crashes when selecting font

Hi Andy welcome to Mint, So I figure I could put the individual fonts into separate folders each with its own pathway, instead of putting them all in one folder and refresh font editor etc. You need to undo the changes, even using the purge command does not remove the configuration files in your hom...

Re: Any Carpenters by trade?

Quite the project, if you do rip 10s down to flush up the basement ceiling I wouldn't worry about the extra 3/4. It will actually increase the load the floor will carry and getting some of the roof load transfered directly to the basement floor will defiantly help prevent any sagging in the future. ...

Re: Any Carpenters by trade?

Im, going to have to cut down 2x10's to 8" width. The extra 3/4 would make the joists stronger but you may find it easer to use normal 7 and 1/4 2x8s and use 3/4 shims (use 1x4) under the joists where they sit on the foundation/beams. Getting a full 8" joist under the exterior walls may be nearly i...

Re: Booting is relative

You think changing the boot config and applying modesetting will fix stuff? I should try it. I am not certain, it might help but some of the comments mention that it doesn't help with mint 18. Its something you can try next time you get a boot failure. I just found this when doing a search using "I...

OK. How to disable integrated graphics on mint? Dont really need it. I doubt the intel integrated GPU is the problem, could be this though: Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) FAILED: nouveau I searched using "FAILED: nouveau intel graphics ubuntu" and found this: htt...

Re: Is distro hopping ultimately pointless?

This might be a dumb question, but could you install 4.8 and 4.9 at the same time or would it necessarily have to replace 4.8? I'm sure I've had different versions of the same software installed at the same time before but when it comes to the technical files like library and programmery stuff can ...

Re: Is distro hopping ultimately pointless?

Indeed I've heard that one of the advantages is that if a piece of software isn't in your local repository you can just grab the source and compile it and it will work In my experience this is not entirely accurate. When compiling software you have to provide all the dependencies needed by the pack...

Re: I'd like to learn how to play an electronic keyboard. Please.

Second, they would want to teach me how to play a piano, not that keyboard, largely because they probably wouldn't be familiar with that keyboard. That keyboard might make some different sounds than a piano, but the key layout is the same, anyone who can teach you to play a piano can teach you to p...

My problem is, i don't find the program after this, i look in everyware and nothing. Looks like it only works from the command line, if it successfully installed, you should be able to use the utility ncdump to show the contents of netCDF files in a terminal. See this page. http://www.unidata.ucar....

Re: How to show faulty hardware

Some hardware faults are intermittent, but if Linux suspends/resumes correctly and stays up and running for a week or more then hardware is theoretically OK. I am certainly no expert and its been a few years since I had that issue, maybe the win device manager was incorrect or the problem was inter...

Re: How to show faulty hardware

I'm certain of what I said but have no opinion on your defective GPU. Ok dude. Windows cannot boot from USB devices, so running Linux off a USB flash drive is the quickest way to probe hardware. You can run memory test in grub, and once the desktop boots you can run tests for disk, GL graphics benc...

You quite certain about that? I had a GPU that windows reported as damaged, it did run on linux for a while, but eventually it died.

Re: [Not a Post] Praying for the folks in Texas

As an outsider battling wildfires in the Columbia gorge, 9-10,000 acres in 48 hours, I can empathise with the Texans. I live about a mile from the Rice Ridge fire. I have been on an evac warning list for two weeks and my best friend just got back in to her place after being evacuated for 10 days. T...
