Re: Benefits of Mint 18 over Windows 10

And then, there are the work group collaboration suites -- which abound in Windows, but are scarce in Linux. In my last gig we primarily used Linux but used Office 365 as most people were remote working most of the time. The ability to do things like edit documents without endless-e-mails and passin...

Re: Proplem with Brother HL1212w printing

We had a lot of problems until we settled on HP printers as HP kit just seems better supported. The company also has one of those large print/fax/scan printers that weigh as much as a small person but we print to that via a Windows server - direct from Mint seemed an insurmountable problem! :( Apolo...

Re: Benefits of Mint 18 over Windows 10

Where I am we use both. Mint is used for all the main areas of activity - development, processing data (utilise MySQL) and support. However, we also have a Windows server and a number of Windows PCs. We find we have less issues with Word, Excel and other MS Office packages than Libre Office although...

Web Framework For Use With Mint, Python and NoSQL

About a year ago I looked at frameworks for use with Mint, Python and MySQL. After looking at Flask and Django I settled on Django as there were issues with Flask. This was more medium term than short term and in the interim an executive decision has been taken to use NoSQL (MongoDB). AS a three dec...

Re: Large CPU spikes when charger plugged in.

Strange indeed! I have had issues with the system appearing to slow down when on battery power alone (around 30% and below). However does make me wonder if a fault has developed in your charging circuitry.

TeamViewer 12

I realise that TeamViewer is not within the Package Manager but this is not a problem. However I was unable to get control of a remote machine yesterday as it had been upgraded to TeamViewer 12. So I decided to upgrade my Mint 17.3 laptop and ended up with broken dependencies. Once I had fixed this ...

Re: Recommend PDF software

Much depends on what you want to do. I have used Okular in the past and am, maybe, fortunate that I can create what I need as HTML and convert to PDF via html2pdf.I have good reports about Master but functionality is limited until you pay! :(

Re: Audio is not working 18.1 along with seemingly related problem.

Is your wi-fi working correctly? The reason I ask was I had no wi-fi and noaudio when I installed Mint 13 on an HP255 laptop some 30 months ago (now on Mint 17.3). With the wi-fi being the important issue I addressed this issue first. Once the correct driver was installed the audio started working. ...

Re: dell inspiron 1525

I did this some years ago using Mint 13 32-bit -which version of Mint are you using. Getting the WiFi to work was a nightmare that involved downloading backports (you need cable connectivity for this) - the OS moves forward but old hardware remains the same - and building/installing the correct driv...

Merging PDFs

One of my applications (written in Python, a little C and SQL) produces a report based on the user's selection. This report is initially generated in HTML before conversion to a PDF (for printing, e-mailing, etc.) via the utility “wkhtmltopdf”. Now a requirement has come along to add other PDFs into...

Re: Skype alternative

Think I will have to try 'qtox'! I have used Skype for some years but have been unhappy about some of the changes since MS's acquisition. After being badly hacked last year I am even more wary of using it. As my password consisted of letters and numbers (and was not "abc123") it was not someone just...
