Re: Window drop shadow without compiz?

In gconf-editor:

It also does drop shadows without 3D acceleration (such as using nv/nouveau).

Re: Changing menu text?

Hmm, not keen on all black/dark themes, that's why I like the shiki ones.

Re: Changing menu text?

And there is the problem.
I'm really looking for some way to colour the MintMenu text only.
Is there no way to do it with .gtkrc-2.0?

Re: Empathy. It doesn't work.

Although that seems to work if I quit pidgin then re-open it but not when launched on startup.
However I have just found an extended preferences plugin which enables it.

Re: Changing menu text?

Unfortunately that's the problem, I can change the background colour to match other menus (blackish colour) but I am then left with unreadable black menu text also.

Also I am only wanting the text on Mint Menu to be bold.

Empathy. It doesn't work.

Or at least not with MSN which is what I'm wanting it for. It keeps telling me my account is not authenticated even though the same account works fine with pidgin, aMSN etc. I really want a lightweight messenger that I can keep running on startup and all the time but I DON'T want a buddy list on scr...

Changing menu text?

Because I use shiki themes on my desktop, all my menus are black with white text, as is the gnome panel. So I would like my mint menu to also have a black background with white text as it looks out of place to me (I would also like bold text on the mint menu as well). Is there any way to edit the te...

Re: MintMenu as a sidebar?

I couldn't actually find a way to get the menu to stay open but as I was looking I thought, "Wow, what a stupid idea. Why have a menu/sidebar open all the time taking up so much space when it only takes a single click to use it?" Oh well. Would still be interested to know window rules for the menu t...

MintMenu as a sidebar?

So I installed Gnome Shell preview to have a looky and was pretty underwhelmed and thought it didn't really add anything over the good old Mint Menu (yes, I know it's early days and is just a preview). But it did get me to thinking of using the Mint Menu as a sidebar. I'm wondering what current sett...

Re: Can i install Usplash themes in Mint.

Mint 8 still uses usplash doesn't it?
X-splash only being used for GDM/Login?

Grub2 > Usplash > Xsplash > GDM > Xsplash > Desktop

That's how it seems anyway.

Re: Showing up to date when updates are available

It has failed to show level 1 and 2 updates. I have never experienced this problem with the previous 2 versions. Strangely enough, when I posted this it had not ONCE shown any updates were available yet this morning when I turned my comp on the icon changed to indicate that the updates were availabl...

Showing up to date when updates are available

Since installing Mint 8 I have noticed there have not been any updates but then I happened to click on the notification icon and MintUpdate opened up and showed updates pending. Once the main window was open the notification icon changed to indicate there were updates available. This has been the be...

Re: F-Spot and manually added photos

I gave both digikam and picasa a try and both were pretty impressive but I have decided on digikam. It does everything I need and much more. The only thing I now miss from F-Spot was while importing photos, it would automatically detect which photos on my camera are already in my collection so would...

Re: F-Spot and manually added photos

I do tend to hear negative things regarding Picasa, mainly related to the sending of information to google. Is this unfounded? Scare mongering?
Also what do you guys think to digikam? I don't actually use any other KDE app so I would rather stay Gnome-ish but it's not essential.

Re: Two partitions taking a long time to mount

Thought it might be useful to include my fstab entries for the partitions in question: UUID=4657-421F /mnt/multimedia vfat auto,rw,utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1 UUID=46FB-66C2 /mnt/shared vfat auto,utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1 Note they are mounted in /mnt rather than media. They are symlinked to /media to...

[SOLVED] Two partitions taking a long time to mount

My disk is split into several partitions and I have 2 fat32 partitions for data which are auto mounted at boot. During boot up I get a message in usplash saying it is waiting for the partition and that it isn't ready and I get these messages for both. This ONLY happens with the fat32 partitions and ...

[SOLVED] Menu button text cut off

So I have my name (shane) set as the menu button text for MintMenu. Every time I boot up I find half or the whole "e" is cut off. I actually have it on the top panel with the old gnome menubar at the side but the positions of either doesn't change so the menubar isn't cutting it off. In fact, if I m...

F-Spot and manually added photos

Thanks to a thread I started yesterday I am now syncing my photo collection between my PC and the missus' laptop. I'm using F-Spot for importing and viewing photos but I notice if the photos are viewed on her laptop, it doesn't show any newly added/synced photos. It appears F-spot does not actively ...

Re: [SOLVED] Synchronizing data between two PC's.

Thanks again for the heads up about grsync.
Worked like a charm, very fast and easy to use.

If I may ask one more question:
I have done the initial sync but I'm just wondering what options I need to enable for future incremental synchronization so that only new files are transferred?
