Re: Bleachbit?

You do NOT want to use BleachBit. Somebody posts here about every week or so, about how BleachBit destroyed their system. Just my 0.02$: I have BleachBit installed and I run it occasionally. Just like with everything else, you just need to know how to configure and use it. As I am posting this, my ...

Re: Windows 10...

@Hairyloon If I were you, I'd stay away from Win10. There is nothing so much new and so much sexy in it that you cannot find in previous Windows version (e.g. 7 or 8 ). Here are some articles you may want to read: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/29/wind-nos/ http://www.howtogeek.com/219166/y...

Re: Chromium calls home

Re. Iridium, generally I do not install packages from outside the official built-in repositories, PPAs, etc. for security reasons. So I'd prefer to have something from the official Ubuntu or LM repos. Currently I use Firefox and sometimes Midori, but I am not such a big fan of Firefox as it seems to...

Re: Chromium calls home

It's not a bug, it's what Chromium does. If you want a Google- free version of Chromium you have to use a fork, like e.g. https://iridiumbrowser.de/ It offers better security but also lacks some Google features (e.g. Sync / Signing in to Google) Thanks! Isn't Chromium supposed to be free from Googl...

Re: Chromium calls home

On your second link read comment #19, #20, and #21. #19 GCM Channel status syncer only runs when GCM does (meaning starts when there is at least one application/web page/component needing GCM, and stops when last one of these is gone, at which point GCM stops as well. #20 The gstatic request is pro...

Chromium calls home

Hey! Do you happen to know something new about this security/privacy bug or "feature" : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=792580 https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=498272 It is about v43 but newer ones were released after that . Is it fixed ? Still in triage as per t...

Re: Best SSD brand for Linux Mint / Ubuntu

Hi all, Let me share my SSD experience so far. I reinstalled LM from scrath (17.2 XFCE) on the Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Boot time is 13 seconds (from PC vendor logo) to password prompt. It used to be 40 seconds on HDD :) 8-10 more seconds after password is entered so that it is fully operational. All pr...

Re: Running really slow on new ssd

you should not have to optimize the ssd for any linux system. .. so - did you set separate partitions on the ssd? or, just as the usual one partition of a combined root & home. From what I read here >> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=206607&p=1075743&hilit=SSD+trim#p1075743 no sero...

Best SSD brand for Linux Mint / Ubuntu [SOLVED]

Hi everyone, I am thinking of buying SSD in order to speed up my computer. I would appreciate your advice. 1. What is the best brand (SSD vendor) in your option ? 2. Are there any brands that are known to have issues with Linux Mint/Ubuntu-based OS ? I read about some "faulty" Samsung SSDs that had ...

Re: Web browsers out-of-date?

Chromium performs and works best on Linux Mint or *buntu (IMO) but I do not use it because it is connected to Google and because of the Chromium security "bugs" or security design flaws such as https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=786909 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug...

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - the new Windows 8 / 10 / Snappy

Which happens to be a fact  No, it's not a fact, it's opinion, consumer type of opinion. Most people around (and specifically computer users) the world have never heard of GNU/Linux, all they know is Windows and they do not know of any alternatives. Or even if they knew about them, they do...

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - the new Windows 8 / 10 / Snappy

And then we have; - Standardization, tending to the need of the mass users, and not of values of a minority group. Changes are evolving with the mass users, not behind (like the conservatives) or ahead (like the radical extremes), but just at the pace the mass-user wants (standardization). What str...

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - the new Windows 8 / 10 / Snappy

... Linux Mint still has a design that makes you think it is way older than Windows 7. It looks gray, neutral, the user settings are unattractive, the windows panel are ugly without users own customizations (not a good design out of the box). Windows 7 had way more design behind it, yet Linux Mint ...

Re: Web browsers out-of-date?

Hello. I've been using Mint 17.2 Xfce for about a month. Yesterday I noticed a strange fact about the web browsers in the Mint repository. I wanted to install a second web browser. In the repo there are three browsers from a set of the most mainstream ones (Firefox, Opera, and Chromium). When I was...

Goto firefox menu (top right)

A windows will open and youll see the option to refresh Firefox.
