Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

Can you try using another path other than /media/tony to test this anomaly. This will setup your folders to /media sudo mkdir /media/DropBox_A sudo mkdir /media/DropBox_BU sudo umount /media/tony/DropBox_A sudo umount /media/tony/DropBox_BU sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o defaults,noatime,utf8,uid=1000,gi...

Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

Hi, In a previous thread ( https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=214647), you helped me with a problem with the naming of this drive. In that thread, you requested using this command. Please see below the output of running the command today. tony@tony-Latitude-E6430 /media/tony/DropBox_A...

Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

.. maybe there is a globbing problem because /media/tony is owned by root. Globbing is done by the shell before it passes the expanded file list to the utility and if the shell doesn't have the necessary permissions, it can't glob successfully. ... So you might try sudo bash -c "your rysnc command"...

Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

Referring to Buzzsaw's comment in the other , related thread ( mentioned at the start of this thread) .. That's two unexplained anomalies in one thread: first find not finding files that are there, and then rsync saying that identical files are different. Something is amiss and I suspect it's relate...

Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

you run commands with 143.jpg instead of 143.JPG as the argument. Thanks FreedomTruth, I did suspect that it was a user-problem and it turned out to be a real rookie one... thanks. Please see below a screen-grab highlighting the rsync problem with another file 111.JPG. Sha512sum confirms both files...

Re: Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

Thanks Wharfrat, I hadn't noticed that the "hexdump" had shown a trailing period..... in UK, that's a SpecSavers moment! I am confused on what to do next. Unexpected behaviour of Rsync

Background:- This problem was discovered as part of https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=283910&start=20#p1571814 where I had requested help in identifying files which were in a Backup folder but not in the Master. Re: Finding unique files (SOLVED)

Apologies for continuing this thread rather than creating a more precise thread ( I am writing a summary for the new thread to help others understand the issue but have not had time to complete the summary) An example of a file which rsync flags as different ( despite their time stamps and sha512sum...
