[SOLVED] HP OfficeJet 8715 plugged in via USB not detected. Simple Scanner says No Scanners Detected.

I just updated to LM 18.3 and just got a new printer/scanner (HP OfficeJet Pro 8715). Last week this computer was LM 18.2 and the printer I had was an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500. It worked fine (via USB cable—I never connected it via WiFi). I didn't have any trouble at all. Now this one is giving me a ha...

Re: Does Linux Mint play well with Apple products?

You are asking the wrong question. The right question is "Do Apple products play well with other operating systems?" You are correct, sir. I rephrased it. All too often, the answer is no. I should think that you would be able to plug your iPad into your Mint machine and transfer files over USB, but...

I am a Cinnamon user. Update manager is showing updates for Mate applications. What should I do?

It's showing libmateweather, mate-menus, mate-panel, mate-polkit. Should I update them or should I right-click and ignore them?

Thank you

Re: [UNSOLVED] Bluetooth problems: Bastien's computer? Who the heck is Bastien?

Problem solved. You know what the solution is? I bought a new wireless card. Last July, I bought an Alienware R15 that has never had this Bluetooth/Bastien problem. It's worked 100% of the time. On the same day, I bought a brand new Dell that immediately started doing the Bastien thing. Both compute...

Re: [18.2KDE64Bit] - Force "Performance" CPU Mode?

James Smith - What did you do to get your max back up to 3100? I went into my BIOS and disabled the Intel Speedtrap and my max dropped to 2400 like yours did I reversed everything. This "force performance CPU" thing is poppycock. The CPU is designed to perform economically and efficiently. Forcing ...

Do Apple products (specifically, the iPad) play well with Linux Mint?

I am sort of forced to get an iPad for my job so I just ordered one. How is the compatibility between LM and Apple? Will I be able to just plug it up and go, or will there be extra steps? Or will it work at all? I've never had an Apple product and the last Apple device I used was an Apple ][ back in...

I've already checked on that. It worked with my laptop.

Re: I have three computers in front of me. Each says a different number of packages are available in the Software Manage

Why? Because  The Xfce difference is understandable because it's a different user environment to Cinnamon. As for the other two, perhaps one is more up to date than the other has different software installed, or is a different edition e.g. 18.1 as opposed to 18.2. You can also check that t...

I have three computers in front of me. Each says a different number of packages are available in the Software Manager.

One of them is dramatically different. Two of them are LM 18.2 Cinnamon and one is LM 18.2 XFCE. 1. Dell Inspiron 13 (Cinnamon) says there are 85,324 packages available :) 2. Acer Aspire 1551-3876 (XFCE) says there are 85,408 packages available :D 3. Alienware 15 R3 (Cinnamon) says there are 8,297 p...

Hello, I have an Alienware 17 R3, and it is possible to control the leds although the interface is less friendly than W$. Have a look at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=225433 for how I did it. I supposed it should be the same on the 15 but no promise. Enjoy your machine Thank you...

Delete the file and download it again from a local mirror: https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/all/linux-firmware/download You don't need a package manager to install a .deb file. Ok, I just went to the Synaptic Package Manager and it says that I already have 1.157.11 So... I'm good? Sounds ...

Re: I just bought a Killer 1535 WiFi card for my Dell Inspiron 13. Do I just pop it in and turn it on or...?

You will likely need to download newer firmware from https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/linux-firmware Transfer the file to Linux Mint and double click on it to install, then reboot I finally got my wireless card, but I am unsure how to proceed. I went to this page from your link and was co...

Re: Browse through 30,000 free applications from the Software Manager?

Many source packages are split into multiple packages in the repository (i.e., the application executable and its help files and common files might all be split into their own package in the repository while upstream they come from one source package) and of course there are also system libraries a...

Ok, Mint fired up no problem and I was able to restart it in Windex and that worked, too.

So, the second question then is the one I need an answer to: will this happen each and every time I download a program in Linux?

Dual boot (W10/LM18.2) bitlocker recovery question/problem

Ok, so I know a little bit about this. It has to do with UEFI and 3rd party software and some other stuff. Like I said: I know a little bit about it. So, I was working on Mint (as I do 95% of the time) and I downloaded a program or two from the Synaptic Manager. It did that thing where it said that ...
