Re: Internet Speed Meter

You didn't say which version you're using....

In Cinnamon, right click on the panel... add applets/Download.... update the cache.

You'll find what you're looking for there.

Re: Newbie issue with Radeon R7 Graphics display resolution on Mint 19

Hello, welcome the Linux and Mint. Yeah, bit of a sore point with Radeon I'm afraid. As the blog says open source drivers are the only option.. blame AMD.. for newer Linux releases. Mint 17 is the last version to support the propriety Driver, it is still supported but not for long, matter of months ...

Re: Fallback desktop error Mint19 Cinnamon

Much like your problems with the "resource-heavier newer versions of MacOS" Cinnamon is the most resource heavy version of the Linux desktop. Based on this and the age of your machine a good starting point would be to do another new install of a lighter desktop environment, Xfce or MATE. Once instal...

A good place to start would be providing more details about your system.

To do that open a terminal in either the installed desktop or the live version, enter the following code and copy paste the results back here using the </> code tags.

Code: Select all

And moved to a different drive with ntfs format... That's probably where things messed up for you. NTFS and Linux permissions don't, typically, play well. If you're backing up a timeshift snapshot move it to an ext4 drive or partition. If you check the files permissions sitting on the NTFS drive yo...

Re: A New Small-Cheap Laptop for Mint 19 - Will it Work?

Looks like a good deal... but, honestly, no, no I wouldn't buy it for running Linux.

Radeon Graphics drivers will only now work ( pretty sure ) on older Kernels under Mint 17.

Look for NVIDIA machines.

Top tip. Much like long time partners... looks fade, its personality that counts. Eye candy is just that, eye candy, fundamentally its whats under the hood and that's what really counts when choosing an OS, what can be done with it and if that suits you. Linux can, very easily be 'customised' to loo...

Re: Reverting back to linux mint 18.3

After trying to unmount /dev/sda1 in gparted I got this message Could not umount /dev/sda1 #umount -v'/cdrom umount: /cdrom: target is busy This is correct as the cdrom is your installation media, represented by /dev/sda1. From the live desktop go to menu and search for gparted. Use this to delete all partitions and re-format the drive to ext4. Then continue with the install.

This should help
