Wireless drivers on GitHub

I have a new HP laptop with a Realtek d723 wireless adapter that is not recognized but my question is not how to fix it. I see several other threads for the same (or similar) issue and many of them point to installing drivers from https://github.com/lwfinger (or one or two others, e.g. smlinux). I c...

Re: Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

I removed the 4.13.0-26 kernel, rebooted, went back to 4.10.0-42 and even though I changed back to nvidia-340 in Driver Manager and rebooted again, inxi still reports nouveau, even though Driver Manager still says nvidia-340.

I need a tie breaker ;-/

Re: Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

@JeremyB, thanks for the info. Things seem OK with the 4.13 kernel and the nouveau driver. Is there any reason that's not a good combination? If there will be an update coming to nvidia-340, maybe I'll just go with that and watch for the update. Or I can use the 4.4 kernel if there are issues.

Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

It looks like other folks have similar issues, so I'm posting this as another data point. This old Dell desktop was running great with 4.10.0-42 but then I applied the update to 4.13.0-26 to address the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. After rebooting, I received a popup window that said, "Cinn...

Re: WPA2 is no longer safe ? [issue is already fixed on all Mint versions]

It is good that issue already fixed on Mint. But it is far from the end of story - who and when will fix our WIFI routers? I would expect that most of the popular router vendors would respond in a fairly timely manner. However, I'm taking the same approach with my routers as I am with my PCs, mainl...

Another satisfied DDG user here. I use it almost exclusively, save the very rare occurrence where I don't seem to get the results I want, then I'll try something else.

Re: I hosed up GRUB, how to avoid?

JChristensen, It was a good troubleshooting experience though right  Yes absolutely it was. I sort of figured that's what happened, was just looking for some confirmation. And yes it is a BIOS system. How would UEFI be different? I think there is a separate UEFI partition? Maybe GRUB lives th...

I hosed up GRUB, how to avoid?

I had a dual boot system with two LM images. I wanted to remove one image (the more recently installed one), so from the other (older) image, I just deleted its partitions. When I rebooted I was greeted with a grub rescue> prompt. I was able to repair things using information from this page , but no...

I'd be up for some too! I found several at https://www.zazzle.com/linux+mint+stickers and https://www.unixstickers.com/tag/mint-stickers I've been using Adafruit's Tux stickers https://www.adafruit.com/product/663 But maybe I should consider something Mint specific too. Just returned a laptop to a f...

Fixed now, see https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=241723&p=1304046#p1303974 Don't forget to edit your original post as [SOLVED]. Thanks. @111MilesToGo is the OP. Technically, I can't say SOLVED anyway because I haven't done another install since the fix to verify. I used the workarou...

Re: The 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/.

We've fixed the issue for Linux Mint 18.1. Will fix it for 18 shortly as well. No changes to the ISO so you don't need to download any ISO anew. Edit: issue fixed for Linux Mint 18 as well. We know why the previous fix worked for a while and then stopped working. We should have it completely fixed ...

@flyingeggs: I don't know the whole story, but check this other thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=241723 Evidently they thought it solved at one point but now it has resurfaced. Sounds like they are working on it. I ended up installing without the network connected and things...

Re: Mint 18.1 installer keeps crashing when connected to internet

All seems well after installing LM17.3 on this Lenovo ideapad 110. Indeed 17.3 was a fine release and I used it for some time; pity that the latest and greatest has issues. This is a dual boot with Win10. I used the "something else" install, having previously shrunk the Windows partition and created...

What needs to be done to complete the installation after installing without internet connection?

Works for me from Ohio. Michigan here, Comcast is my ISP, using their DNS. Using the IP fixed it for me too. The host command returns the identical IP that you gave. It had been a few days, maybe a week since I'd tried it, but no problems at that time. No one has told me I've been mis-behaving, I m...

Re: Secondary screen not working with nvidia-375/378

nvidia-375 seems to have bugs that cause various symptoms. Check out this other thread; ubuntu is aware of the issues so maybe there is hope: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=242158&p=1294448#p1294448 Edit: It is actually an nvidia issue but they are aware as well: https://devtalk.n...
