sh script keeps running after I log out of Cinnamon

My problem is that I have a shell script which I use to keep docky running - its a great dock, but seems to quit/crash every few days. My laptop has multiple users and we spend lots of time switching between users, sleeping/waking the laptop etc. Docky doesnt appear to like it and I wanted a way to ...

Video playback stutters / is jumpy (SOLVED)

I'm running LM 17.3 Cinnamon on a DELL with Intel graphics. Normal usage, moving windows around etc, is tear-free and seems smooth. But, video playback (mp4 video) stutters and seems to stall every second or so, appears regular. In Video app and also VLC. Very obvious when lots is changing on screen...

"Enhances the results given by Google" what does That mean? Be Honest and Open about it please! Happy Holidays! It puts a nice Mint logo in the top corner of the results page. Is it separate from the revenue-generating referral search link? Not sure... Actually, my mint logo is still shown in the Y...

I think thats an over-reaction. Locking down all parts of the web browser results in better security.

The only loser here, I guess, (for the MINT addon) is that we dont get a 'minty' search results page, no big loss surely?

Re: How'd you cut your teeth on Linux?

A room-mate at Uni (USA) was doing computer science and talking about whether to do coding in linux, that was the first time I heard about it - late 1990's. My first hands-on experience with *nix was with the email service run by my Uni, which instructed us to log in via command line and type "pine"...

Re: Installer options I'd love to see

The thread seems to have veered ever so slightly off-topic. And that's cool because it's super interesting. By all means, keep going (if you want)! I would suggest that the ability to import from a backup or existing linux installation (not necessarily Mint...): - fresh install where is l...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running

Could someone explain to me why anything to do with Virtualbox is running at startup? I rarely use vb and I certainly don't want it running any code when I start my machine. well, VirtualBox addons are not actually running, just checking to see if they should be run. that check will take a tiny fra...

Hello, Fred60. After having done a search I found posts by the developer saying, he designed it that way. Would you care to post the link to the developer's statement, please? I admit my search on more details about the reasons why the popup notification has been added has not returned any hits so ...

You have taken a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Hope you have not caused more severe trouble to your system than an annoying little popup. No, more like a surgeon's blade: - Doctor, I seem to have a problem with my appendix - Is it causing pain? - No, but it is popping up every so often - Well, you a...

yes, this worked for me - as mentioned above, it removed more than just 3 packages, but is now fixed.

How to keep laptop awake while active samba sharing

I have a DELL laptop running LM 17.2 Xfce. Samba file sharing is working very nicely. I have a folder set up to be shared and allow guest access. This is working with OSX and Android clients. Will, I would not classify this as a true fix, but it does resolve the step of having to manually increasing the brightness after logging in. So, it's better but the initial cause is still present ... whatever it is. -- Mike Well, I havent seen anything obvious in the log files when dimming occurs,...

Oh, and have a look at the suggestions in this discussion: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=202554&p=1052795 especially the bit about Launch Driver Manager and check whether it offers you a closed non-free Nvidia driver. If so, install it and reboot. This might help with the brightne...
