Re: Any reason to upgrade these old computers?

Agree with earlier answers:

- no need to upgrade if the users are happy with the current setup
- worthwhile checking the capacitors - if they show signs of corrosion (bulging or leaking caps) then mobo lifespan is limited

Re: Error: No boot drive found, or drive failed. [Solved]

Your CPU has an 'lm' flag, so it is 64-bit width.

Sorry, I don't know how to resolve your problem.

Re: Live cd 17.1 reboots after 'loading initrd.lz...ready'

Is there a 'Secure Boot' option in the BIOS?
If so, disable it.

Have you disabled 'Fast Start-Up' in Windows and then done a cold shutdown?

I don't know the answer, but you will need to tell us more information - such as which flavour of Mint you are using?

Re: will 64bit Mint run on Dell GX620 (Intel EM64T 64-bit)

Download the live installer here: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php Then boot into a Live Mint session (that's what it's for to test out before installation) Post a system overview here using: Open a terminal window. Make it fullscreen, so that there will be no breaks in the generated lines. Cop...

Re: recover files after botched instalation

Well you got Mint installed so that's good.

Yep, gparted is pre-installed on the live ISO installer, but is not present in the installed version.

Do as above, or find it in the Software Repository.

Re: message @ install with usb install

Move the GRUB2 boot flag: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/grub2-moving-boot-to-separate-partition-909761/ Try that. If you really wanted a clean install, then boot from the live Linux DVD/USB and choose 'something else' and follow this tutorial: http://itsfoss.com/guide-inst...

Re: Cinnamon 17.2 usb boot problem

I did this once using Rufus.

You've haven't actually [burned] the ISO.

You need to change the 'Create a bootable disk using' to ISO.
