Re: Are you already using Mint 18?

I'm multi-booting Mint 18 Xfce, 17.3 KDE and Mint 18 KDE Beta alongside Windows 10. I have an allocated free space for the upcoming 18 KDE official release. I've been spending a lot of time with the KDE Beta and so far I've been able to run my apps normally. That's all that matters. There are glitch...

Re: Mint 18 KDE problems

5 KDE wallet. This has to be the most useless piece of software out there. If I set Gigolo to auto start and connect to five drives on my NAS, it starts before Wallet. I then have to enter my user name and password five times in Gigolo and once in Wallet. Disabling Wallet in settings then has the r...

Re: What is old oldest computer you saved with Linux?

The last and oldest computer I had, which was given away, was a single-core laptop with 1 GB ram. It runs beautifully on Windows XP, one of the greatest OSes that was ever developed. At that time, websites are not yet media-intensive so it was fast during its time. The XP equivalents in Linux looked...

Re: My honest thought about Linux Mint.

Posters of these types of threads need to specify which Linux Mint they're talking about.

It's got 5 flavors: Cinnamon, Mate, Xfce, KDE, LMDE. All are very distinct from each other.

Please specify which flavor you are talking about.

Re: Mint 18KDE

It's not as solid as Mint 17.3 KDE yet, but it's usable. The main problem I'm getting is the wifi password having to constantly type it after a reboot.

Re: Mint 18KDE

Thom, in your dual boot setup, what do you do with your data partition? Is it a joined one, or do you have separate partitions per system? And, is it the typical home partition (config folders and your data) or do you use a separate data partition, next to a home one? I used to make 4 partitions pe...

Re: Mint 18KDE

Yes, it states on the Mint Blog announcement that the Beta is upgradeable to the final release version. That's good. And if I may add to my previous post, users don't need to delete their current KDE partition. Most new releases become stable after a couple of months. Just install it in a new parti...

Re: Mint 18KDE

It's not only the blue to green change, it is also the background which has the Cinnamon color (I guess). No, as a true KDE'er I like the KDE themes, the bright themes with the Noto sans font (sharp as a knife), just beautiful. But seeing other KDE distro's I don't worry, I know they will be there....

Re: Mint 18KDE

Serious? Mint KDE looks like Mint Cinnamon? Why? I sure hope the traditional KDE themes are still there to use cause I like those. I have never liked the way Cinnamon looks and I probably never will. It is KDE for 100% for me. The way it is intended. He probably meant the usual blue theme in curren...

Re: KDE Plasma 5 - what it's all about

Seems Netrunner 1 "Maui" is okay. http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=09517 The USB live booted without a glitch. Very different from my experience with latest Kubuntu and other Plasma-based distros. It seems well-organized too. But I have to check the installed version and see if I could run my main app...

Re: I never see anyone talking about building Mint desktops!

If you no longer use Windows, then that alone would save you $115(?), which is the cost of a Win 10 Home license. Good thing is there are tens and tens of Linux distros you can choose from. And you can try most of them for free. Pick whatever suits your preferences, not what people have in their mac...

Re: KDE Plasma 5 - what it's all about

As for processing capabilities I also agree that bigger is usually going to be better, even in the long run, with many parts having already come close to their theoretical minimum size threshold. I almost bought an Aspire 12" tablet years ago when it was displayed at BestBuy. It was running a full ...

Re: KDE Plasma 5 - what it's all about

While computer sales have declined, it doesn't mean people have stopped using them. It also means the computers they currently have which they bought years ago are still very usable and have no need to buy a new one. They still exist in millions of homes and offices. It will probably take decades to...

Re: KDE Plasma 5 - what it's all about

I understand developers' need and focus for mobile devices. Heck, a lot of people use their mobiles majority of the time and I rarely see friends and relatives use their computers. Same people who used to rely heavily on them. But why the convergence and not just leave the desktop alone? Why assume ...

Re: Linux as a desktop OS has low acceptance

Ill give you an instance...I want to run an application which requires a windows substitute environment (Chairgun Pro). You probably have to stop insisting on using applications that were made specifically for other OSes. I gave up Wine a long time ago, for instance. It's just not that easy trying ...

Re: KDE,-- possibly best choice?

Hence overall, i've still not found anything nearly as comprehensively good as Mint 17.3 KDE4. While everyone, including me, appreciate reviews like yours, I go where my needs are. I don't use workspaces, for instance, or activities, even on my laptop where they're needed the most, imho. I find tha...
