Re: Separate subforums for "solved" issues

I was thinking of just moving the threads already marked "solved", as opposed to manually checking each one, but as you said r00t, not all solved issues are marked, and not all marked issues are actually solved. Also, the end result would not be much different than simply searching for "solved" in t...

Separate subforums for "solved" issues

Would it be possible for there to be, under the main support forums (e.g. Newbie Questions, Installation and Boot, etc.) subforums dedicated to *just* solved issues? Right now, the support forums are a hodgepodge of active threads about issues, issues they were never resolved, issues that were aband...

...do the inevitable immediately!"
Just not so immediately that you forget to backup your files.

Anyway, here is a post that talks about upgrading to the latest version:

"Still using Linux Mint 14, 15, or 16? Upgrade to 17 asap!"

Re: would population=more viruses for Linux?

There's no reason not to promote Linux, other than if the person you are trying to promote Linux to are already happy with what they have. As far as malware and viruses go, Linux has a lot of features (such as repositories, needing to authenticate administrative actions, etc.) that make it much safe...

Re: Upgrade Mint?

There are some minor bugs with the version I'm using now called Cinnamon, Cinnamon is the desktop environment that runs on top of Linux Mint. You can have Cinnamon without Linux Mint, you can have Linux Mint without Cinnamon. You can find out which version you are running now by going under Menu ->...

Re: Why Linux? Why not Microsoft?

There are many reasons. 1) Choice: Windows: Oh look, I can change colors and wallpapers! How incredibly thoughtful of them! Linux: There are currently 278 distros listed on DistroWatch. For DEs, you have MATE, Cinnamon, KDE, xfce, plus many more. You can even have window managers if you don't...

Re: Upgrade Mint?

Hello Toki, As jimallyn said, what is out right now is a Release Candidate, which is the final phase before stable release, which will come in about two weeks. A few days after Rafaela is released, there will be a way to upgrade seamlessly through Update Manager. As far as whether to upgrade or not,...

Re: [Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason

I keep Windows mostly for games, such as Banished, or older games that only run on Windows, such as Civ 4. I haven't booted to Windows in weeks, and whenever I do boot to Windows, I am very careful to not click "Shut Down" when there is a little shield on it. Updates are Windows's way of punishing m...

Re: Cinammon vs. Xfce:

Hello greigpj. Speed: xfce is a bit faster than cinnamon, but unless you have 2 gb RAM or less, you probably won't notice much difference. Also, Cinnamon can be quite light, if desktop effects are disabled. Features: As far as features that are Mint-specific, such as mintUpdate, etc. they are the sa...

Re: Greetings from Arkansas

Howdy neighbor...and welcome! I see you're from Northeast AR. What city, may I ask? I'm from Harrisburg. I've got 8.1 on my other partition (really, it's not *that* bad once you get used to it.) I think whether Windows is bad/Linux is good depends on what you're used to. New users, who have just co...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

I think a lot about Windows 10 can be summed up as: Windows 10 is designed to be consumed, whereas Linux and Windows 7, XP, etc. were designed to be used. Think about the default programs that come right out of the box with a Linux distro: LibreOffice, GIMP, perhaps Audacity, and an email client, us...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade

It seems that Microsoft is not making Windows free just out of the kindness of their own hearts... http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/software/how-microsoft-plans-to-coax-you-into-using-more-apps-in-windows-10-3610059/ Key Points: "Microsoft has a plan to stop people from ignoring Windows Store apps, a...

Mint 17.2 KDE: KDE 4 or KDE 5?

Since a move to KDE Plasma 5 is under consideration by the developers, I was wondering what you all think about the subject. Personally, I'm going more for KDE Plasma 5 , mainly because I like the cleaner look of Plasma 5, and also because I believe that Plasma 5 will be stable enough by Mint standa...

Greetings from Arkansas

Hello everybody. I'm from Northeast Arkansas, close to Memphis. I've been reading these fora for quite a while, so I have a pretty good idea where everything is. My first encounter with Linux came with Qiana, MATE edition. I think the reason I switched was not because Windows was terrible, but becau...
