[SOLVED] Remove & Reinstall Network Adapter

My system has both wired and Wi-Fi ethernet capabilities. When I was having the trouble with the wired connection the Wi-Fi was still working OK. My problem was that even though I could ping my router and my cable modem from the wired connection I was unable to load any internet pages and could not ...

Re: Netbook dual boot XP and Mint 17.2

I am attempting to install Mint on an ASUS 1008HA netbook using a USB ISO. I can access Mint via the USB but during the install process I am not given the option to install Mint XP alongside XP. I am informed that XP is present, do I want to replace it with Mint! I have two major partitions on the ...

[SOLVED] Remove & Reinstall Network Adapter

Under Windows it was occasionally necessary to uninstall a piece of hardware from the Device Manager and then run a New Hardware Wizard so as to have it found and reinstalled with new drivers. I have looked for but not found parallel processes in Mint 17.2 (64 bit). I was trying to change over to us...

Re: Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

I have nemo set to show hidden files as the default, it is that way all the time. I tried with the terminal first and then I checked with Nemo also and could not see it in either root, home or home/jack (my user folder) and I'm the only user on the system. And when I couldn't find it from the termin...

Re: Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

I hope I am not dumb.... I just spent a couple of hours searching for that file and cannot find it. The time included my also trying to learn more about finding files from the terminal (I am a newbie) and if I understand it the following search should have turned it up: find / -name '.gtkrc-2.0' I s...

Thank you!

I don't know why that file was not mentioned in any of the search hits.

[SOLVED] Default Font Color for Mint 17.2

I am using 17.2 with the default desktop and default font colors. I am seeing white founts on a light grey background and the definition is not very good. I googled and searched and found a bewildering number of ways to do that with other themes and by editing *.css files of various names and at var...

Re: cinnamon-screensaver in 24H format?

I prefer the 24 hour time display for all purposes also. I went to Systems Settings > Preferences > Date & Time and turned on the Use 24 Hour Clock setting to enable that. That put the 24 hour time in the panel. I am using the default screen saver (a display of the time) which is set from System...

[SOLVED] USB HID device not recognized

I have Mint 17.2 64 bit installed on an ASUS Z-87 mobo and it has been working fine as far as recogizing USB flash drives, cameras, an MTP (Samsung S4 Active) phone and doing USB things in general. I have a RC airplane data logger called an eLogger (Eagle Tree Systems) that interfaces with the app v...

Re: Mint 17.2 Space allocation?

Think of it as root being for the operating system and home is area for the applications and user data. So once you get the OS installed there will not be a lot of growth in the Root area. There will be some for sure, but not a lot. Most of the growth will be in the Home area as you add apps and acc...

Re: Mint 17.2 Space allocation?

I am new to Linux also and went through these same questions recently as I installed Mint 17.2 64-bit . And as I googled for answers and info there was a lot of variation as to the recommendations for the sizes of the Root, Home, and swap partitions. I had a 2 TB hard drive with W7 on the primary 62...

Maybe they are not getting answers that were as good as the one you gave me?

I don't see a system here for commenting on the quality of replies or repliers but I certainly give you high marks!

Thanks again,

Re: Wine Installs - Adding Launchers & Changing Icons

This was almost too easy... I downloaded the wine-launcher-creator_1.0.8-1_all.deb file from here: https://code.google.com/p/wine-launcher-creator/downloads/list I put that in a working folder and double clicked it and the GDebi package installer popped up, I chose Install and that is what happened....

[Solved] Wine Installs - Adding Launchers & Changing Icons

I installed a Windows stand alone application under wine and it is working fine other than that I have to go to the Wine drive folder and start it with the Wine installer each time I want to use it. I asked about it on the Wine HQ Forums and they tell me that my problem is because Winemenubuilder ca...

Re: [Solved] Use EasyBCD & Stop grub2 Menu

This has been sorted out, it seems there will always be a need for grub if you are dual booting and have a linux install. That has been explained to me, I have tweaked grub2 and EasyBCD a little and am now happy with the process. As I was also using the Grub Customizer to make the adjustments to the...

Re: Use EasyBCD & Stop grub2 Menu

It did not do that on the first try. I was still seeing the grub2 boot menu after making either the W7 or Mint choice in the EasyBCD menu. But I will give it another try today. Yesterday, for some unknown reason other than that I may have accidentally changed a setting in EasyBCD from windows, it st...

[Solved] Use EasyBCD & Stop grub2 Menu

I have a drive with a new W7 install on the primary partition and a mint install in a second partition and grub2 was used to choose between W7 and Mint. W7 64-bit was installed later, after Mint, and EasyBCD was used to set up a boot menu that offer me choices of either OS. EasyBCD is working well a...
