[SOLVED] Debian or Ubuntu - Which version of wine is best for Mint Linux?

I am running Mint 19 64=bit Cinnamon on a Toshiba Satellite L675D that has a dual core AMD processor. I do not have wine installed yet and have looked at it on the WineHQ wiki pages. The Wine download page here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Download Lists two apparent candidates and I wonder if there is ...

Re: Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

Now it is working! I found and installed this program - go-mtpfs These two were already found as installed: libmtp9 - most likely installed already jmtpf And I enabled the "File Transfer" setting too and eventually I got the prompt to Deny or Allow access and then was able to see all the d...

Re: Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

Thanks for the replies... I had suspected that I must have been missing something because I had not ever had any problems connecting and seeing both devices and being able to move files between them as I progressed from Mint 16 to 19 and 32 and 64 bit implementations until I got to this Toshiba. I w...

[SOLVED] Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

I am running Mint 19 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite L675D laptop and it will not recognize a Samsung S6 cell phone when it is connected. It will charge the phone but I cannot see the contexts of the phone and the phone is not seeing itself as connected either (I would normally have to Allow access fo...

Re: [SOLVED] Skip the GRUB menu at startup?

..<snip>... Some sort of boot loader is mandatory. It doesn't have to be GRUB, but it does have to be something. Uninstalling GRUB without providing another boot loader will render the system unbootable, therefore this should never be suggested. Don't try this at home, kids. ;) Thanks for explainin...

Re: [SOLVED] Skip the GRUB menu at startup?

What happens if you uninstall grub?

I want the menu and use the grub customizer gui so don't know if grub is mandatory to boot linux or not.

Re: Moving stuff from 18.3 to 19...

Hi Jack. I just want to clear up something before anyone offers advice. You said "Lenovo with a i386 processor", which would be 32-bit, and your sig says "Mint 18.2 and 18.3 64-bit". Can you confirm the Lenovo is running Cinnamon 64-bit? It is a T520 with a dual core processor, ...

[SOLVED] Moving stuff from 18.3 to 19...

I have acquired a new (used) laptop and have W7 and Mint 19 on it and working fine in a dual boot setup. The new laptop is a Toshiba with an AMD processor. How much, if any, of all the apps and commands that I've added to the 18.3 install on a Lenovo with a i386 processor over the last two years or ...

Re: 3TB Hard Drive Setup issues...

Right you were of course. I had used a number of external USB drives to make backups and move images around or prep drives for installs in a computer. But the 2TB and up changed things a lot... I love the HGST drives, so quiet and reliable. These two are about four years old and used but at $45 or s...

Re: 3TB Hard Drive Setup issues...

I love these forums! Even when I come here and find out that I have shot myself in the foot again! I looks like my problem was because I was using a USB 2.0 external SATA drive case on a laptop when I should have put the drive on the SATA bus on my ASUS Z97 desktop machine down in the basement... I ...

I have a 3TB hard drive that was purchased used on eBay. It came to me as an 2974.52 GB "RAW" primary partition. I wanted to change that to a ext4 partition and also write zeros to all sectors so as to find out the condition of the drive. After I deleted the "RAW" partition the d...

Re: Installing Linux Mint 19 32-bits?

My apologies for the mistake... So what has happened here now, my post has been given a subject and it was moved from Announcements to the Topic section? I'm a little confused because my question was not about 32-bit installs, it was to ask if the download of Mint 19 will install to either Intel or ...
