Re: [SOLVED] 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Cannot use Auto Login?

And, just for the record, I made the same changes to the same file on my desktop computer and that is now logging me on automatically also.

When I log out I see the LightDM desktop and can log in again from there...

Re: 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Cannot use Auto Login?

You can just add the autologin-user=yourusername line to that file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/70-linuxmint.conf underneath the [SeatDefaults] section. Yay! That fixed it! My file 70-linuxmint.conf in folder /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d now reads as follows: [SeatDefaults] autologin-user=jack user-s...

Re: 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Cannot use Auto Login?

I found a good page on uninstalling LightDM and reinstalling MDM, I'm going to give this thread a while to see if an easier answer pops up and then I'll probably do that and fall back to MDM: Installing – and Uninstalling – LightDM in Linux Mint 18.2 - https://linuxnorth.wordpress.com/2017/07/04/ins...

Re: 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Cannot use Auto Login?

Look in the lightdm.conf.d directory. Does the file there have either or both of these lines in it? [Seat:*] autologin-user= No, here is what the other two folders have for files and the file contents: folder = lightdm.conf.d only file = 70-linuxmint.conf file contents are: [/code][SeatDefaults] us...

Maybe you just need to copy these to your setup and change the user name :?
Good idea, I'll give that a try here eventually.

Thanks,

Re: 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Cannot use Auto Login?

Thanks for the quick replies guys I had followed to process here to do the upgrade: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3306 and had enabled LightDM and removed MDM. I think, up until I did that, I was still being logged on automatically. Then I followed some of the 10 steps things here to see if I could c...

[SOLVED] 18.2 upgraded from 18.1 - Auto Login Fixed!

I have two computers in my home, I am the only user on them. With 18.1 I was logged on automatically when they were powered up or restarted. I used the Update Manager to update both of those to 18.2 and cannot seem to find any way to get logge on automatically. Did that option go away or something? ...

PIX Application Question

I would prefer, in some cases, that the excellent and very useful Pix app does not take any actions when media containing images is inserted as a device. But I can't seem to find a setting that will keep it from opening a Nemo (file browser) pop up with a tab that offers to assist with importing the...

Can you past back ls -lh /etc/fstab* ls -lh /etc/fstab* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 731 Apr 23 10:47 /etc/fstab I found that in another tutorial I read, it said to duplicate the fstab file using this command: 1. Re: UUID - PARTUUID - /etc/fstab Question

Thanks for the replies and help, it makes me feel more brave about trying the PARTUUID's. I still can't figure out the fstab.$ file. I have googled fstab and visited 20 or so page, searched them all for the word "fstab.$" and not found a single mention of it. When I look at the fstab.$ fil...

[SOLVED] UUID - PARTUUID - /etc/fstab Question

In the course of upgrading from upgrading from Mint 17.2 to 18.1 and moving to a new hard drive I've been playing with moving the old 17.2 /home partition to the new 18.1 install on the new drive as a replacement for the /home partition that came with the 18.1 install. In the course of that PARTUUID...

Re: Replace new install /home/user with old /home/user

The delete directive instructs rsync to remove files in the destination folder that were deleted from the source folder. Also you can do this via ssh with rsync -naviuzh --progress --delete-after yourname@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/home/yourname/ /home/yourname/ OK, I read an explanation that mislead me, it ...

Re: Replace new install /home/user with old /home/user

... 4 - I need to remove the contents of the old 17.2 /home folder as it is copied to the new 18.1 folder because there is not quite enough space in the partition to for both the 17.2 /home contents and a new copy of it (it is a large folder, over 330 GB). Re: Replace new install /home/user with old /home/user

I got sidetracked with Easter for a few days but messed with this intermittently during that time. Let me summarize the situation as it is right now. 1 - I have a new install of mint 18.1 on a new drive, done with / (root), /home, and swap partitions 2 - I copied the /home folder (all files and subf...

Re: Replace new install /home/user with old /home/user

Thanks for slapping me awake! Maybe I'm getting a little smarter about this... Is it that I do not need to specify a path to the two locations because they are unique paths to different locations on the same drive? That even though they are in two different partitions these two paths are unique path...
