I'm trying to set up a bitcoin wallet, which uses Java script from this site: https://multibit.org/en/help/hd0.3/how- ... linux.html
So far I'm not able to get past the installation sequence. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? How do we LM users install Java?

Re: possible virus and DOS attack
I have an update finally. It turns out that the apartment complex I live in hired an IT specialist to overhaul our internet services. As a result, he changed everything over to 5G and simultaneously removed all the older 2.4G equipment. As a result, my current Ralink wifi adapter, as well as my onbo...

Re: possible virus and DOS attack
Close the update manager, the software manager and synaptic. Now open software sources -> maintenance and click the button to solve MergeList probems. I'm seeing this warning after the attempted update: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/Release Unable to find expect...

Re: possible virus and DOS attack
3) I have no way to reboot anything. Any hardware is out of my reach. Does this probably mean that this machine belongs to an organization? In this case the admin should be able to help. I live in a condo complex with over 200 apartments. Any hardware is locked away in the general offices. It could...

Re: possible virus and DOS attack
Try this for the Atheros wireless chipset: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/internet#TOC-Driver-ath9k-or-ath5k:-disable-hardware-encryption-decryption (item 2.3, right column) Why the extra Ralink USB wifi dongle, by the way? I just made the chipset mod for ath9k. The Ralink is an...

Re: possible virus and DOS attack
Thanks for the replies Everyone. To answer some questions: 1) Yes, there were several recommended updates last week coming thru the Update Manager. 2) No, I haven't done anything to provoke an attack, etc. 3) I have no way to reboot anything. Any hardware is out of my reach. 4) There weren't any ker...

possible virus and DOS attack
Hey Guys, I am a full time public wifi user. I have no choice in the matter. About 4 days ago I think I was hit with a virus and/or a DOS attack. My wifi signal is less than half of normal and I'm getting cut off after just 3 or 4 minutes of use, and my Update Manager will not refresh either. I am n...

Re: best Silverlight replacement?
I believe the path for that is still Pipelight, and Silverlight running in their patched Wine version. Installation instructions: http://pipelight.net/cms/install/installation-ubuntu.html. I've not used Pipelight so perhaps somebody else can confirm. I did everything this link said, but no joy. In ...

Re: frequent wifi kickout
If power management is enabled on your wifi card I’d try disabling it (run "sudo iwconfig" to see if it’s enabled). Showing 2 WLANs, and power management for both = OFF. Here is the full text just in case something else could be wrong...: eth0 no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ...

Re: frequent wifi kickout
OK, so I think I am narrowing down at least some of the problem. The wifi router is about 75m and 6 rooms away from my position. When I use just the Atheros app, the nominal signal strength is about 30-32%. (And the Ralink gives me 60-70%). But the signal fluctuates. And often it cuts out altogether...

Re: frequent wifi kickout
You have no less than three wireless cards.... Why? One is the built-in wifi system for the laptop; one is the Ralink USB wifi antennae; and the 3rd I have no idea. I am not using it as far as I know. I am guessing it's just an empty slot left there by the laptop designers. As far as I know...

frequent wifi kickout
I've been using LM 17.2 Rafaela/Cinn for a few weeks now with great results. But the one issue I'm having is with the wifi app. Several times a day the wifi kicks off and it takes several minutes for it to reconnect. Some times it doesn't reconnect for over 5 minutes, and then I make a Restart. But ...

Re: Sony Walkman interface issues
OK Everybody, now we're getting somewhere! Amarok does what VLC would not. Amarok not only "saw" the data inside my Walkman, it was able to Open, Play, and Download them as well! Thank you phd21! Here's the funny part though. Once the files are transferred via Amarok, VLC takes over and be...

Re: Sony Walkman interface issues
Try going into preferred applications and selecting a different application from the drop down dialog box for music. Try VLC, it plays everything. :) Maybe I wasn't as clear as I could have been. Let me try again. I have identical MP3 files on a couple of different drives. Because, back when I was ...
