Re: [SOLVED]Screen tearing

Made the change in mine like so: Option "metamodes" "1920x1080_60 +0+0 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }" # Option "metamodes" "1920x1080_60 +0+0" ...and it is much improved. I had really bad tearing in everything from videos to scrolling in Firefox, menus, pretty much everywhere. Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Laggy window controls (NVIDIA driver problem!)

Nice description Warpzone. I get exactly the same thing, plus some other stuff, like when scrolling in Firefox or menus, etc. the text gets smashed (at the point of screen tearing?) so two lines will overlap and be unreadable or little micro freezes when clicking things, just enough so you think you...

Re: XFCE menu appearance

I'm not sure if I understood the question exactly, but just in case... You can reverse (flip) the column layout of the Whisker Menu if that is the problem: Right click the 'menu button' > Properties. Whisker Menu options pop up. Under the 'Behavior' tab, check (default) or uncheck the box "Position ...

Re: [SOLVED] Laggy window controls (NVIDIA driver problem!)

Thanks for that info...but it did not work for me. My default setting was also 2, changed to 0. I am still getting all sorts of odd, glitchy behavior from Cinnamon. Laggy, disconnected mouse, text being squished from two lines into one, etc. etc. and just a generally sluggish and laggy desktop over ...

Re: [SOLVED] Laggy window controls (NVIDIA driver problem!)

I'd like to give it a try. Can you tell me how to switch to xfce without breaking anything? I'd just download the ISO and run the live boot to test it and see if it behaves and if you like it. I imagine you could just download the Xfce stuff and install it on a current Cinnamon/Mate install (I put ...

Re: Stock backgrounds/wallpaper broken after using a custom

Thanks. Noted for future reference, it probably would have sorted it except: When browsing to that folder with Thunar, I see the default Linux Mint image and what appears to be a bunch of shortcuts to the other stock ones in the previously mentioned folder ( broken shortcuts now because I moved the ...

Stock backgrounds/wallpaper broken after using a custom one?

The default folder-full-o-backgrounds is apparently /usr/share/backgrounds/several folders full of images, and with that "backgrounds" folder selected in the desktop settings window/thingy, as it is by default, you see all the wallpapers in all of those sub folders directly (you don't see the sub fo...

Re: [SOLVED] Laggy window controls (NVIDIA driver problem!)

I'm not so sure it's an Nvidia problem and not a Cinnamon (+nvidia) problem. I can use the newer Nvidia drivers (currently 346.82-Updates) on Xfce with no problems...and I am starting to like it better anyway. Cinnamon was pretty buggy/crashy in general for me.

Re: Laggy window controls (NVIDIA driver problem!)

I imagine it's the same problem, I just describe it diffently? Basically, imagine a pull down menu (like File > open > save > save as > export > etc > etc ) with 10 options. You want to click on option 5, but the highlighted part stops on 4, and as you try to coax it down to 5 so you can click, it j...

Re: Someone with GRUB Customizer...please read

Old thread I know, but in case someone googles their way here, as I did... grub-customizer (v4.06, not sure about others) has a little "minus" sign next to the font box (right where you changed it from) so if you've changed it, you can click that to remove any custom font and it goes back to default...

Re: Laggy window controls (Mint 17.2 Cinnamon)

Sadly, I can not offer any help for this, but I can say I got the same behavior, as if the mouse cursor has become disconnected from the grapic of it on screen. You can not even click on things in menus because the cursor will not "get on" the item you want or may appear to be on it but click on som...

Re: Annoyed with Whisker menu on 17.2

It took you longer to write this than it takes to solve it... Right-click on the menu button, choose Properties, remove the mark on "Show generic application names". For your ammusement: I discovered this very same check box... ...after spending a small eternity in the "Edit Applications" window re...

Thanks for this info. I was having trouble getting Pale Moon browser to install from the .sh file, and the PPA method is an out dated version.

Re: Change Desktop Background hangs in LinuxMint 17.1 MATE

I just went with 17.2 Xfce, but thanks. I'm liking Xfce much better anyway. More info for the heck of it though: The Wallpaper thing in the 17.2 Mate version, happened every single time I tried to change the background/wallpaper, while booted into the live DVD only, or full install, before and after...

Re: Change Desktop Background hangs in LinuxMint 17.1 MATE

I've been trying for 4 days to try out Mint Mate (my preffered DE) and Cinnamon. Both of them not only hang/freeze when I attempt to change the wallpaper/background, but freeze, lockup, then crash and reboot. Upon rebooting my bios reports a "Boot failure" and gives me options to enter bios, reload ...
