Accessing Root and imaging Mint

Hi all, I've been trying to figure out a way to make an image of my Mint install, and make it a bootable USB for (in-case of emergency break glass) type of thing. I've got Mint just how I want it. Spent some time setting up Mint with Conky, custom folders, custom theme, custom mouse pointer and so o...

Linux Mint in the media.

Found an interesting video on youtube taken from news broadcast that gives Linux Mint a positive mention.

The video is about Windows 10 monitoring everything you do, but finishes by recommending Linux Mint if you want to be safe from spying.

Re: Did I choose the wrong distro?

When friends and family have a computer problem they come and see me. I can build systems with my eyes closed, not basic systems, but water-cooled gaming rigs with all the bells a whistles. Windows OS regardless of version isn't a problem for me. I can fix them easily. It took me 2 days to install l...

Which version of Mint for what hardware?

I'm somewhat confused about the different versions of Mint available, and why people pick one over another? I read somewhere here on the forums someone say according to your hardware is what version you choose. But didn't explain anything after that. I am using Asus laptop G750JZ Intel(R) Core(TM) i...

Re: How to force resolution for external monitors/TVs?

Menu -> Left side of panel, press System Settings -> Scroll down to Hardware section and click Display -> Click on your 1920x1080 display and click Set As Primary.

Does that fix it?

Re: Conky /run/media/ help needed please

Everything solved. For anyone who finds this thread in the future - Instead of nuking "${color5}Windows:${color1} and so on" you simply place a # in front of the code at the beginning of the line you want disabled. As for making Conky auto start - Hold ATL+F2 and in the pop-up that follows type "gno...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

What made me switch to Linux Mint? The babes, I'm only here for the babes  Like many I was a Windows user forever. 8.1 was my current set up and though I liked Win7 more, Win8 was pretty good once tweaked and that god awful start screen replaced. Then Win10 showed up and it was time to upgrade ...

Re: GPT partition table corrupted OR grub lost on dual boot

I'm not saying this is the answer, but what worked for me was to convert the GPT partition to MBR.

https://www.partition-assistant.com/res ... -disk.html

I used Aomei Partition Assistant and the guide above.

Re: Updated to Firefox 40 {"success":true,"location":"\/brow

It was the first thing I tried. I started Firefox in safemode with add-ons disabled and the problem remained. I also tried: Close FF. Open your file-manager and make hidden files visible. Rename the folder .mozilla to .mozilla.bck Start FF, this will create automatically a new FF-profile. Check. To ...

Am I using the right drivers for my video card?

Hi all,

http://oi60.tinypic.com/t53ij6.jpg

Above is a screen shot of Nvidia Settings and Driver Manager, and the drivers I selected.

The reason I'm asking is when I watch movies, there is some screen tearing.

I am using VLC to watch movies with a GeForce GTX 880M Graphics card.

Thanks :)

Re: Updated to Firefox 40 {"success":true,"location":"\/brow

Firefox -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Refresh Firefox. It was the only way I found to fix the issue. Downside was I had to redo all my add-ons, but its sorted now.

Thanks :)

Updated to Firefox 40 {"success":true,"location":"\/browse"}

Hi all, Just updated to Firefox 40 and have a very strange error. On a few sites (not all sites) but important sites I visit everyday, when I log in to those sites all I get is {"success":true,"location":"\/browse"} in the top lefthand corner. Tried doing a google search and can't find any informati...

[SOLVED] Conky /run/media/ help needed please

This is the one I chose to install: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Conky-color?content=153230 I've got it up and running, but in terminal I see this: me@mint ~ $ conky -c ~/.conky/conkyrc Conky: statfs64 '/run/media/Windows': No such file o...

The Microsoft Conspiracy :P

HI all this is my first post (well besides my introduction post that is) :P I've recently (like 3 days ago) jumped ship to Linux Mint because the whole business of Windows 10 was freaking me out. I don't know the first thing about Linux. If I may explain what I actually thought about Linux before I ...

Hi All

Hello to everyone @ Linux Mint :D Sadly I am not a Linux guru joining these forums. A complete and utter newbie is me, and I'm here to hopefully learn something. I've been a Windows user for as long as I can remember, back in the days of dial-up, beige boxes and monitors that looked like TV's. Micro...
