Re: Does Mylist.list really work?

I have to say 'more or less'. My daily driver is Cin 19.3, but I have 20 in a VirtualBox. However that is a clean install, not an upgrade. I transferred the output file to 20 & ran the Restore option & it mostly worked. As far as I could see the items that didn't work were ones that I added from mea...

Re: New version of Update Manager?

When you install Mint it is linked to 2 specific Mirrors. It is quicker if you switch to a local mirror later as it is quicker to download locally than Internationally. If you select to change mirrors then Mint will go away & search & display all local mirrors & how swift they are, You then select w...

Re: catalog audio books

I will be interested in any positive replies also, as I haven't managed to find anything that worked successfully. I tried using Calibre by using VLC to create a playlist of a book & then adding that as a book. It worked, but was cumbersome & didn't really achieve what I wanted. I also tried using C...

Re: Show hidden windows files/folders in Mint 20

Second thoughts... :D Although, possibly, my example might not be entirely accurate as my Mint 20 is running in VirtualBox. So my NTFS drive is actually attached to the Mint system as a Shared Folder. That may (or may not) make a difference. However any hidden Folders held on that Shared Drive are v...

Re: Show hidden windows files/folders in Mint 20

You don't say what desktop/File Manager you are using.
In Cinnamon/Nemo it is as ever.
Right mouse click in the window, click the show hidden files tick box.

I believe that absque fenestris was referring to this sort of data. From the link in his signature.. [5] Details! Details! Details! Include the version and architecture (32-bit, 64-bit) of Linux Mint. List any relevant hardware or software specifications. 'inxi' is a useful terminal command for list...

Re: virtualbox ,where is it?

I would certainly agree with Pierre to download it directly from Oracle. Don't forget to also download the VirtualBox 6.1.14 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack , which is a page up from the url that Pierre has given you. That enables things like better USB support. After I installed it in my Cinnam...

Re: How to Defend my Computer from Windows?

Well it is possible for Windows updates to overwhelm a dual booted Linux environment. After all, there are plenty of cases of Windows updates even overwhelming just a Windows booted computer.. :D But i really don't think that it happens that often to overly concern most users. After all, Windows can...

Re: updating opera mint 20 installed via snap

I think Snap updates will always take a while longer than the owners' websites so there will always be a bit of a delay.

I am sorry that the Opera Additional Repositories didn't work for you.
This is what mine looks like..

I'm not a 'Snap-happy' type of person. However my current version of Opera is.. opera.png I originally downloaded (several years ago) Opera from here https://www.opera.com/download It automatically figures out that I was on Linux & gave me a .deb package when I hit the Download now button.. Re: Mint 20 to windows 7

Your hard disk was probably formatted to ext4 in order to install Mint 20. Windows 7 needs it formatted to NTFS. You will need to download a bootable copy of GParted & burn that to a usb. Use that to reformat your disk then add Windows 7. p.s. If you intend to contact the outside world with that pc ...

Re: Lifetime windows user very interested in learning Linux mint

Is it OK? That I boot like that. Reason I boot like that I just find it easier for me. Perfectly fine. Installing Mint on a completely different drive to Windows is often the best way to go, Windows updates can screw with grub anyway. Second upon reading the official documents for 20 mint it tells ...

Re: Unable to locate Simple Scan on my Linux Mint 20

Sorry, I m completely baffled by this. On my version of Mint 20 Cinn I have deleted & re-installed simple scan without any difficulty at all. Both by removing/adding simple scan itself & by removing/adding libscan. Have you tried searching for simple scan in Synaptic, right mouse clicking on it & Co...

Re: Are flatpaks typically HUGE?

I think that you are getting a little over concerned about the subject.. :D Flatpacks are undoubtedly larger than a .deb file because their aim is for portability without effort across Linux Distributions. I think that is a very worthy goal but the price you pay for that portability & ease of instal...
