Re: How to set default document rules in LibreOffice Writer?

I notice that you want the default font to be Verdana, which is a Microsoft font & not loaded into Libre Office by default. If you have not already done so then you need to add Microsoft Office fonts. https://zillowtech.com/install-microsoft-fonts-linux.html You can Add Verdana as you default font b...

Re: How to set default document rules in LibreOffice Writer?

I would imagine that there are a number of ways, but personally, I would create what you want in a new document & then save that as a template - then you just load the template when you want another new document. [1. Create a document and add the content and formatting styles that you want. 2. Choos...

Re: Print Both Sides

The get out option if a printer does not offer duplex is to select to print only odd numbered pages first.
When finished, reverse printed pages in the paper in-tray & then select to print only even numbered pages.. :D

I appreciate everybody's input, but my question still stands.
& I have given you the answer....after all if it is just an electronic switch then, some time in the future, Windows X will, undoubtedly, be able to turn that on..

Re: Physical Hard Drive Switch?

If you are really that worried then have Windows 10 installed on 1 USB drive & Linux installed on another.
Then only plug in the USB OS you want to run.

For me.. Pierre's advice would be good to go.. but I don't worry about an great deal of 'stuff' that other folks do.. :D

Re: How to: Instal the Latest version of PlayonLinux?

If you have a Microsoft Account then you can use most of the Office products via a browser, for free. Go to this URL https://products.office.com/en-gb/free-office-online-for-the-web Go to the bottom of the page, office.png Log in & away you go. However, like anything, there are drawbacks, although i...

Re: Adding arrows to pics the way Paint does in Windows

Just to add to phd21's post. Like you, linuxheid, my version of Ksnip was not in the list of applications that could open pictures... so I followed his instructions to add it in Nemo - which seemed the best option to me personally. See screenshot below - done with Ksnip in its' usual to me mode ... ...

Re: Is Terminal Knowledge Necessary

I have been watching various vidoes on Linux Mint and on one of them they dealt with Terminal and commands. I have to say as a non geek type, basically just want to run things from GUI I find these very difficult. At 78 years old I am just too old to go into learning this sort of stuff and does con...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

I believe that if the live disk works then that is a very strong indication that a full install will also work. The full install might not work with complete satisfaction out of the box when loaded, but in many, many cases it will. In the cases that it does not work immediately on install then I thi...

Re: Wine Security

No, creating a virtual drive is part of the process of setting up a virtual box guest. Virtual Box itself will step you through a logical process of setting up a new guest. One of these steps is setting up the actual virtual disk that will contain your Windows 10 operating system. The only thing to ...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Have you tried running Mint from a live disk? That might highlight any issues you are facing if you install it . The same would be true of any other Distribution you might like to try if Mint presented insurmountable issues running live. If nothing Linux seemed to work then you could always keep Win...

Yes you have a full install of Windows 10 in a virtual machine. The first creation of a virtual machine can be a bit of a daunting task, but there is plenty of help to be had on here when you run into difficulties. After a while creating a new virtual machine is a very quick exercise. +1 for KeePass...

Re: How to block adult content

phd entered the correct link, however the forum has a ban on the word p o r n.
Hence that is changed in the url to 4 *
Copy the url, paste it into your bowser & replace the 4 * with the letters p,o,r,n & you will find the correct page.

Re: reformatting from NTFS to Ext4

Timeshift is capable of backing up everything - system & data- but that was not its' original intent & so, is probably not a very sensible approach to take when alternative programs designed just to back up personal data are available. Timeshift is really Linux's answer to Microsoft System Restore &...

Re: Extreme Lag and Blocking when ram reaches 80%

The only posts that I have read concerning Cinnamon using very large amounts of CPU seem to centre around video card/driver issues. I think that a copy of the output of inxi -Fxz put into the terminal would be very useful here. That command lists out the full details of your equipment without showin...

Re: Extreme Lag and Blocking when ram reaches 80%

The

Code: Select all

top
command in the terminal will show what functions are consuming RAM & CPU in descending order.

Code: Select all

free -h
shows what the system sees as RAM & Swap & how much (in total) is being used/free.
Both are worth doing & sharing when you hit the 80%.
