Re: Can you use the same My Passport drive in Linux and Windows?

On my desktop I am dual boot Windows 7 & Mint 19.1.
I also have a Western Digital, My Passport, 1TB.

It is seen and works on both systems... As Schultz says it is formatted to NTFS.

Re: How to Install a Canon Lide 120 scanner in Mint ?

Well we are both using 19.1 Alvin so I am surprised.. If you open Simple Scan & then click on the 3 horizontal bars to the right of the screen, the last option is preferences. scan 1.png If you then click on the right hand side tab, Quality, the options I showed in my previous post appear.. scan 2.p...

Re: How to Install a Canon Lide 120 scanner in Mint ?

Yes, you do need to save to print. I save as a PDF & then just open that by double clicking & print with document viewer, rather than Libre Office. It is possible to alter the quality of the scan & also remove the grey background under preferences. scan.png According to the Canon web site Linux driv...

Re: VirtualBox Error: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

However my main workhorse is Mint 19.1 & that works perfectly. I only run Windows to answer queries for friends who are using it & have issues, otherwise i rarely touch it.. The time will come when your friends test you so severely that you say, "I'm sorry, I use Linux, not Windwoes, and I've no lo...

How's that experience? Does everything else run fine? :?: Everything with Linux is fine with it. I have virtualboxed just about every Distribution imaginable but (I will admit) have had issues running some in Virtualbox As some Distributions don't run well in VB & some are just unfriendly as **** :...

Re: New installation looks "washed out"

That would be my recommendation too - try a dark theme instead. Like you I am not a fan of the concept of grey on grey, for someone getting on in years & failing eyesight it is just not an option for me. Indeed without resource to darker themes I would have had to look elsewhere for an operating Sys...

Download a live version of Mint & see if that boots.. He will at least have a working PC then even if it is not with the OS he likes. If Mint live boots then you can at least explore options for getting Windows to work - although it might be that the hardware was damaged by the fall... If Mint wont ...

Great, did you come across the 'removing' menu, if so how did you close or re-start? Do you mean in Software Manager after it has Installed? You then get the option to Launch or Remove? At that point I shut down Software Manager, went to Menu typed in GNUCash & launched it from there (You could als...
