Re: grub required to update new installation of mint 19.1

One problem I have is that I do not know how to properly use this forum. I can not seem to return to a thread I started. Only some posts in it seem to appear. I need to learn how to use forum properly. Peter the easiest way to see your posts is to click on the Quick Links shortcut at the top of the...

Clonezilla is a good option - as long as you have something available big enough to take the created images..

Re: Linux Replacement for MusicBee?

If you can't live without MusicBee (& it does look a neat program) then my best suggestion would be to load Windows 7 in a virtualbox machine & then run VirtualBox in FireJail. That way you have the nest of both worlds - as long as you have the CPU & RAM to cope, & if you were using Windows 10, then...

Re: Best storage solution for Linux Mint, with 25GB SSD and 300GB HDD?

Did you enable Timeshift?
If so, where are the snapshots being saved??

If to your root then maybe look at trimming them down (& saving future snapshots elsewhere)....

Re: Has my hdd malfunctioned???

The hard disk manufacturer Seagate do a number of free tools to test hard disks - for the 2 below they do not need to be a Seagate manufactured model. SeaTools for Windows - which, as the name suggests runs under Windows. I had limited success with the program, largely because it is trying to examin...

Re: possibly awkward newbie question about support for Linux

I don't think you should consider paying anyone until after you have given it a go yourself. You have little to lose except the cost of a USB drive to load your Mint system onto. Technically it is not much more difficult to do than what you have already done - register with this Forum & make your po...

Re: network error arising in virtual box linux mint

Well, according to your second image, your problem is that you cannot mount guest additions in the Mint Guest system. I would solve it by going to Virtual Box in whatever your Host Operating System is & downloading Guest additions. Then open the Mint Guest System & run Guest Additions - by clicking ...

Re: Privacy; should you even bother?

Personally I look at it like physical house security. No house is completely safe from being broken into, however that does not mean it is reasonable for me to leave my front door open when I go out. So I lock my front door (use Linux rather than another system) & bar my windows (use a VPN & high pr...

Re: @ sign on Lenovo g505 doesn't work

I think that it might depend on which keyboard setting you used.
I am on a English/Thai keyboard.
If I set the keyboard to English USA then the @ works fine.
If I set it to English UK then I have to use Shift " (the key next to the Enter key) to get @. The uppercase 2 key just gives me "...

Re: Abe Books Homebase on Linux Mint?

Tony I have just tried a new install of Windows 7 on VirtualBox 5.2.18_Ubuntu r123745 on Mint Cinnamon 19.1

Once the Guest Additions was loaded it was no issue to move files both ways through a shared folder.

If you are still having problem I will be happy to do a step by step for you...

Re: Abe Books Homebase on Linux Mint?

The problem is transferring files between the guest and host OS's. I have created a directory for file sharing and selected 'Bidirectional' and so forth when doing the settings in VB, and installed the Guest Additions. I was able to copy from Linux to Windows, and the directory appears as a shared ...

Re: mint 19.1 boot partition

Your issue would seem to be the file created by Timeshift on your root partition.
It is currently taking up nearly 50% of the partition..

Personally I would delete it & set Timeshift to point output at your Home partition rather than Root..
