My guess is it was nothing more than a popup / ad.

Menu -> Administration -> Driver Manager

That should install the driver for you. No need to go to the ATI website and download it yourself.

Re: My Mint starts too fast to access my UEFI...?

Also, you could edit your grub config file to make it show the menu instead of auto booting Mint. On my menu the last entry is enter setup and it will launch right into my UEFI.

Re: connecting external DVD/Blu-ray drive to Cinnamon

I stuck my Mint DVD in my drive and ran it for a week before installing. As long as you don't turn the computer off you don't loose anything you do in mint and as long as you don't mess with the drive you don't do anything to your Windows. When you are done you can either pull the DVD out and restar...

Re: Messenger in Linux????

Hmm, I used to use Trillian on Windows, but switched to GAIM a long time ago. GAIM was later renamed to Pidgin due to naming issues with AOL. What specific issues were you having with Pidgin? Did you add any accounts from the Accounts -> Manage Accounts setting on the main window? I like Pidgin on b...

Re: New Installation Questions

One thing you might consider is running the live disk for a few days and see how things work for you. Then you won't touch your Windows install until you know things are working. I ran the live DVD for almost a week I think on my laptop. With DVDs you can't really save anything, but everything shoul...

Re: Overdrive sound from notification area

I will double this request for 17.2 Cinnamon as I have done the same thing with some quieter youtube videos. The icon and volume keys on my laptop go to 100%, but the actual sound settings can go to 150% similar to the screenshot above.

Is there is CD-drive option in wine that lets you either pass through directly to your cd drive or pick an ISO file to mount?

I think you can hit the escape key during boot/shutdown to see the actual log of what is going on in the background vs the fancy images.

Re: KODI - Desktop Icon not responding (Rebecca 17.1)

Try opening your file browser, going to your home folder (user name), enabling hidden files (ctrl+h), and renaming the .kodi file to something like .kodi-old. Now try to open Kodi again. If it opens fine now something was wrong with your config files. You can either start over with the settings from...

Here is a recent thread that talks about old computers and also has a couple other suggestions for different distributions aimed at older hardware.

Menu -> Administration -> Login Window

From there go to the section marked Auto Login.

Are you sure your issue isn't something like caps lock or number lock being on/off?

2) For transferring TB sudo rsync -av /path_from_target/.thunderbird/ /path_to_destination/.thunderbird sudo chown username -R /home/username/.thunderbird Isn't that simply a fancy way of telling him to copy his .thunderbird config folder from the old install to the new install? Unless you have a retail version activation key of Win7 you can't download from the Microsoft website. Here is a link to the only place I know of to download Windows 7 ISOs: I got my copy from Digital River a couple years ago, but I saw this article today and assumed the download link was gone: htt...

Re: Can't get drivers to install on Mint 17.2 Rafaela

I think what you want to do is this: Click Menu -> Administration -> Software Manager Type your password Find the search box in the upper right corner of the new window Type escpr in that box and hit enter If you use a 32 bit mint use the i386 one, if you use a 64 bit use the other one. Just click o...
