Re: Accidentally wrote over Windows drive boot partition.

That web page presumes you have a Win7 Install disk -- which, if your PC came with Windows preinstalled, you most likely do NOT have -- as the OEMs did not provide Win7 install disks. If you need such a disk, since you probably didn't make a Win7 Repair CD (or you would have mentioned it), you will...

Re: How do I hide the title bar?

Chromium and Google Chrome:
Click the 3 horizontal bars on the top right corner to open the menu.
Click settings (third from the bottom.)
Under Appearance uncheck "Use system title bars and borders."

Re: repositories list error

Changed my mirror as well. As you expected, I was using that one because it had the highest speed. I think it was the default one too.

Another thing that would probably help is to change the update frequency. I changed my update manager to check for updates every 12 hours instead of every 30 minutes.

Re: High cpu usage for web video

It could be your video drivers. Did you install any proprietary drivers your system will take? Another thing I have noticed. Windows bases your CPU usage on a 100% scale. Mint seems to be using a 100% times the number of cores you have. So a 4 core cpu maxes at 400%. There is an option in the system...

Re: Youtube wont Full Screen

Dumb question, but are you sure you are pressing the full screen button and not the theater mode button?
Also, have you tried different browsers? You can get Chromium from the software store and you can get Google Chrome directly from Google.

Re: Update Manager fails to start on bootup

I am using 17.2 Cinnamon x64 and have also noticed sometimes the icons for programs aren't displayed. They are still there and I can still click on the icons, but the spaces are blank. They seem to come and go based on activity. Usually attempting to start the program a second time gets the icon bac...

If you are in the terminal anyway, pico/nano is usually easier if you are used to them. Vi/vim might be too, but those can be more confusing.

Menu -> Preferences -> Mouse and Touchpad.

Click over to the touchpad settings.
Make sure 2 finger and 3 finger are set.
Make sure scrolling is set.

Re: 2-Finger tap not emulating "Right Click" Mint 17.2

It works for me. I am still missing the 3 finger swipe for back/forward and minimize all windows. I will say the 2 and 3 finger taps are very sensitive. You have to time it just right. Windows was a lot more forgiving on making them work. 2 finger scrolling is disabled by default. In the touchpad se...

Can you open Menu -> Administration -> Software Sources?

You could get to your repositories that way too and either delete or disable some of them.

Re: Destroy file contents but keep file name?

Do you need separate files or can you do something like

Code: Select all

ls > list.txt
from a terminal window? That will list save them in a file called list.txt. After that you could delete the files. Make sure to save your list.txt file somewhere before deleting everything in the folder.

I don't know about your Mint issues, but if you are trying to erase a drive I have heard good things about DBAN.

http://www.dban.org/

You can write multiple passes of random nonsense across the entire drive to make it unrecoverable.

Re: How do I start.

Something else you could do is install virtualbox in windows, and then load linux in that. Basically virtualbox creates as many virtual computers inside of your main computer as you want and you can play around with different operating systems that way. Once one of them is running full screen you wo...

I will also recommend Deluge. I used uTorrent for a long time in Windows and switched to Deluge in Windows a few months ago, so it was natural to go with Deluge on linux as well. I was using uTorrent on wine just fine on Ubuntu about 7 years ago or so, but that was a long time ago. The RSS stuff was...

Re: what is the fastest download method

I used the torrent and it maxed out my 15mb download limit. Last I checked there were like 60,000+ seeds. Do you use the default Transmission client as is? Even when I allow more peers I don't get many more. Do all bittorrent clients have access to all those 60k seeds or just others using the same ...

Warning: I know just enough to be dangerous. This is what I would try, but it might break something? I had the opposite thing I was trying to adjust. In my case I have a few kernels installed so I was trying to get rid of the auto login mint so I could choose which kernel to boot. Try this: sudo pi...
