Re: Mint 18 - connection lost

This is my 3rd day after a clean install from Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon to 18. Today, I'm seeing the same thing as the OP with my wired Ethernet connection. I rebooted 4 times this morning and Mint only saw the Ethernet connection on two of them. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this...

Re: Bind Doesn't Work with Samba/Cics?

Thanks, EDIT: Oops. Missed your last paragraph about rc.local. Never mind the following, then (though it might be useful to someone). I'll do this at the fstab level instead. OP: Since it works on your end, I figured I messed up somewhere. Thinking about it, I realized I'd forgotten to take ownershi...

Re: Access Network or Nemo Bookmarks from Other System Browsing?

I've set up those bookmarks in Nemo and they show up just fine there. The problem is that in some applications, they don't show up (so far, KeePass2 and the initial setup portion of Calibre (for KeePass2, I had to browse up to the file system and down to /mnt; for Calibre, the full application handl...

Bind Doesn't Work with Samba/Cics? [SOLVED?]

I decided to try Bind to point the special folders in my home directory to where I've actually got those kinds of things stored. I used the rc.local portion of altair4's tutorial: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=74321&hilit=bind That worked fine for the Documents folder (which is o...

Re: Access Network or Nemo Bookmarks from Other System Browsing?

I've now moved up to Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon and can no longer find these "real" mount points. I've mounted my second NTFS internal drive as /mnt/Data and my network NAS as /mnt/Samba. With Mint 18, there's nothing in run/user/1000/gvfs. The big problem, is I have no idea what's really going on with ...

Re: How I can change distance between icons in quick launch?

EDIT: [sigh] I don't know why I couldn't find it when I searched for "panel-launcher {". But, for Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon (Mint-Y Theme), it's in the same place as noted above, but under the Mint-Y directory: #panel-launchers-box { padding-left: 7px; } .panel-launcher { margin: 1px; padding: 1px; <==...

Re: How can I get Win10 to Let Mint Read the Fillesystem?

It might be the Hibernate option, but you also have to make sure that "Fast Startup" is OFF (and if you're in the Insider program, make sure you check that each time you get a new build -- Microsoft kindly turns it back on each time and doesn't tell us). In Windows: Power Options -> Choose what the ...

I am getting the same results as Shultz.baloney @eatenimpinia Please post that url Curiouser and curiouser. I went to grab that url and noticed it was a Paypal url. So, it looks like it's still using Paypal, but it's not their account-using side. Instead of posting the url, here's how I got there: ...

Re: [SOLVED] Would installing the update 'shim-signed' affect system boot up?

Secure Boot's been on here for as long as I've been on Linux Mint 17.x. I was a bit worried when I saw the "shim-signed" update. But, I just told it to leave Secure Boot on and have had no issues. I know it's the opposite situation of what you were asking about. But, I thought I'd just add it for an...

Re: Alt+Tab out of fullscreen application

On my Mint 17.3 Cinnamon x64, Alt+Tab works fine. Under Settings -> Windows -> Alt-Tab, do things look right there? I've also seen some talk of using compizconfig-settings-manager from the Software Manager and turning Alt+Tab on from its Switcher tab (I've never run it, so it's hearsay).

Re: Facebook backup

AFAIK, you don't need any kind of app. Just go to your Facebook Settings page and click on the "Download a copy of your Facebook data" link at the bottom of that page. I believe that after some verification, they send you a zip file with everything you ever posted to Facebook on it.

Re: A Question for Steam Gamers

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you don't have to abandon your account when moving from Windows to Linux. No matter which version of Steam you're using, you can use the same account. There's the native Linux version: you can filter your games to only show those that run in Linux. There's the Windows...

Re: What Windows software can you not do without?

Quicken and Steam.

I'm lucky, though. Quicken now runs under Crossover and a reasonable subset of games now run under the Linux version of Steam. I still have to boot into Windows to run those other games (currently doing that with Borderlands).

Re: Libre 5.1 CALC Not displaying some numbers

Right-click on the cell and hit "Format Cells." That should highlight any formatting. What shows up? Assuming you've saved your work, you could also try hitting "Clear Direct Formatting" (that should get rid of any formatting applied without using styles). Another thing you could try is copying the ...

Re: unable to backup

Do you have Steam installed? If so, it might be related to this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=205293&p=1067691#p1067691 But, even if it is, there's no solution listed. EDIT: I take it back about no solution. In the bug thread referenced in the above thread, there's the following...

Re: Confused About Steam Versions

Thanks for the response. I did wait a day or two to see if the Update Manager notice would clear. But, even though Steam, itself, did download and install another client update, there was no change in Update Manager. So, I told it to go ahead and update. As you said, it's just a tiny update and it d...

Confused About Steam Versions

Today, Update Manager in my Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon x64 started telling me that there's an update available for Steam (from version 1.0.0.51 to 1.0.0.52). But, according to my Linux Steam client (which I've been running for quite a long time (and which has been self-updating without problems)), I'm...

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking but fsck will take a look at your disks/filesystems and repair errors if it finds any.
