If you have no .cache/dconf folder then you have not encountered the bug at all.
Well that's good to know. Thanks a.t. But what could have caused the desktop reversion?

{SOLVED} Desktop reverts to default after reboot, during Nemo issue

I had an issue with Nemo early this morning see here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=228416 solution still in progress I think or just awaiting confirmation that part is now okay. During that issue I used update manager to update libharfbuzz and libidn11 . I rebooted and my deskto...

Re: [sudo] rm -rf ~/.cache/thumbnails -does not clear Nemo's warning

There is no output. Is that good or bad? In booting up this morning though, I noticed the warning does not appear when I opened Nemo and the 'Fail' folder is still there but has only 1 file in it now; so perhaps all I needed to do for the remove process to be effective was to reboot after? Anyway, n...

[sudo] rm -rf ~/.cache/thumbnails -does not clear Nemo's warning {SOLVED}

Hello kind and helpful folks-- Nemo says: A Problem has been detected with your thumbnail cache. Fixing it will require administrative privileges I tried the fix I found on the following thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=226024&p=1192273&hilit=thumbnail+cache#p1192273 but tha...

Re: BleachBit

When one press the 'Delete cached package files' button, how does one know if it works? I tried it but didn't see any indication (a pop up dialog) to say 'done' or 'nothing to clear'. I hit OK anyway, not knowing if anything actually happened. There are always chances, to improve things. E.g. if th...

Re: Weird sounding update on Aug 15, 2016

Hmm. . .
Is it the same version as the one I saw?
Could be different 'cause I'm using Cinnamon 17.2 and you're on 18, Mate?

In that case, I wouldn't trust it until someone who knows more, says it's fine.

Re: Weird sounding update on Aug 15, 2016

Schultz, where did you see this? You probably want the ssh-askpass package instead, but this is provided to add to your choice and/or confusion. I couldn't locate it in the desc. was it in the changelog then? A very long list. See what I see for: openssh 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2.8 Description This is the po...

Re: [SOLVED] BackInTime: which is better -distro's or latest version?

I just downloaded BackInTime and tried to backup to my external USB drive. It won't do it because I formatted the backup partition as FAT32 so it will be recognizable to Linux, Windows, and Mac. I have to backup computers with those operating systems. Until this isudo apt-get install backintime-qt4...

Re: BackInTime: which is better -distro's or latest version?

Toss a coin.
I truly will, indeed :). Besides my PPAs in SS has zip in it; zilch; nada. So after 10 months -it's perhaps time to 'give it some company'.

Thanks for explaining.

[SOLVED] BackInTime: which is better -distro's or latest version?

I installed BackInTime from SM today and then went looking for more info on how to best to use it. I came across https://github.com/bit-team/backintime and wondered if there's any advantage to installing the newer version instead. Still finding my way around linux and I don't want too much hassle in...

Re: Confusion about kernels and support

I mean unless you are more comfortable with Ubuntu's update policy stick to the kernel installed on your machine. Since I mean to keep 17.2 for as long as possible, I'll stick with my current 'very okay' kernel -at least until it's absolutely necessary to change it. Since I'm not the OP, I can't ma...

Re: Confusion about kernels and support

I too am confused. So this from Clem's latest blog, LTS kernels and stacks in Linux Mint 17.x In Linux Mint 17.x (17, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3) the 3.16 , 3.19 and 4.2 kernel series reached end-of-life, so they will no longer receive any new kernels. The following series will continue to receive new kernel...

HI again One glitch -- gets your attention-but maybe not the boogie man repeat glitch demands more attention--running ram tests etc Hope & best guess would be that this was "one off" and not an indicator of further problems. It does make one leery though Okay. I will definitely keep both eyes on th...

I would keep an eye open--run your memory check and all.
If you see this again then it would be more of a concern
Thanks all41.
Can you say what would the concerning possibilities be?

[SOLVED] Grub won't load -sign of bad things to come?

I've only installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.2 since Oct 2015 and never had it refused to load. It did that today. I booted the computer and nothing happened -only a blank screen that stayed that way for quite a while. I had to hard reboot and then Grub menu appeared. I was able to shut the computer d...

libmtp error: could not get object handles.

I wonder if anyone has ever had this error message for Galaxy Tab 4 or any other device on Mint Cinnamon 17.2. I've always been able to connect my Galaxy Tab 4 and drag and drop books into it. Today, the computer froze while I was doing this and I chose the 'force close' option. I rebooted and from ...

Re: [SOLVED] Would installing the update 'shim-signed' affect system boot up?

Secure Boot's been on here for as long as I've been on Linux Mint 17.x. I was a bit worried when I saw the "shim-signed" update. But, I just told it to leave Secure Boot on and have had no issues. I know it's the opposite situation of what you were asking about. But, I thought I'd just add it for a...

May not be related to the issue but. . . Though not in the States, not the retractable version or using them for firmware update, I got these http://www.staples.ca/en/Micro-Sleek-16GB-Attache-Red/product_1895950_2-CA_1_20001?externalize=certona in both 16 and 32 GB and they work fine in Mint 17.2.
