Re: Mint installation and manufacturer's Bios updatess

I have a Dell Inspiron2350 Win 8.1.

I've read the manual and didn't see anything about the effects of updating if Windows is replaced by another OS; that's why I'm asking on this forum.

Mint installation and manufacturer's Bios updates

Once again I am very glad there are no 'stupid questions'.

Does installing Mint affect/prevent manufacturers updates to Bios and other drivers on the computer? If, yes. Can someone explain how and what steps should be taken in that event?

Dream big; wish large; miracles still happen. Know what would be totally, absolutely awesome in Canada, not to mention in my lovely city T.? To be able to walk into Future shop, Best Buy, even Staples and purchase a computer with Linux Mint already installed or order online from one of those compute...

[SOLVED] Replacing Windows 8.1 with Mint Cinnamon 17.2

After much reading and vacillation I've decided to go for broke and totally, irreversibly replace Windows 8.1 with Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.2. Figured if I don't have the 'crutch' of Windows on this machine, I will be that much more inclined to dig into and learn Linux. I've backed up my files externa...

Re: connecting external DVD/Blu-ray drive to Cinnamon

(1) What's inhibiting me: Ignorance and a bit of fear. I am vacillating between a complete install thereby getting rid of Windows and running Mint in Virtual Box to see how it goes. I think If I choose to replace Windows, the external DVD drive may stop working because whatever in Windows that cause...

[SOLVED] connecting external DVD/Blu-ray drive to Cinnamon

So I'm in the process of quitting Windows 8.1 for Cinnamon 17.2. I am going slowly, i.e., one operation at a time. I've already burned the image to a DVD but then began to wonder if I may have problem with using the DVD for installation as the DVD burner is an external one connected to the computer ...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 17.2 and Touchscreen

Thanks for the pdf links xenopeek. WINE wasn't a consideration for the very reason you mentioned. As for the 'xinput' -have no idea what that's about. Suffice to say, once I've hit a reason to need to know about it, I will. I'm still trying to figure out how to turn off secure boot and all that in o...

[SOLVED] Mint Cinnamon 17.2 and Touchscreen

This is my first time on this forum. I would like to stop using Windows and after researching about Linux, Mint Cinnamon 17.2 seemed to be the best place to start. Two of the many questions I never got answered were: (1) Is there anything for Linux that does what Adobe Acrobat does (I don't mean jus...
