Re: Disk Partitions -- Best Practice ?
My last effort then was to install a Win8.1 OEM -- and of course this reformatted the disk as NTFS . the Win8.1 OEM failed as I couldn't get the proper support for the monitor installed . I had started with an HP 1440x900 which my wife discarded -- and which works perfect in Linux -- but the Win8.1...

Re: Google Chrome ending support for 32 bit versions
Well, it seems like Google isn't the friend of 32-bit users at least.

Re: Google Chrome ending support for 32 bit versions
I've not had time today to research this much, but I think Chromium 32 bit is still going to be available, all be it I believe you have to manually add the PepperFlash plugin (etc). I'll check this tomorrow as I have not got anything important on. AFAIK, the problem is, there won't be an up-to-date...

Re: Read the ads or pay cash or say goodbye
Still, you are not entitled to free newspaper articles or magazines whatsoever. If someone decides to write them for free, that's great. However it isn't something you can or should expect. Journalists also need to earn their livelihood and feed their families. A plumber is kind of an "expert&q...

Re: Read the ads or pay cash or say goodbye
What you seem to forget is that writers also need to make a living somehow. You do seem to forget that Wired is selling magazines, and that's their business. Circulations of printed magazines and newspapers have been declining in general while more and more people are reading their articles online....

Re: Read the ads or pay cash or say goodbye
What you seem to forget is that writers also need to make a living somehow. Writing a quality article requires a lot of time, research and effort, so I really don't see why someone should be expected to do it for free. You wouldn't expect a plumber, electrician, mechanic, it administrator, etc. to d...

Re: Read an article that said the NSA OWNS Linux
It seems unlikely to me that there are any backdoors in Linux or just about any open source software. Let's be honest: Who read the source code of the kernel and every single program he has installed on his computer, provided they compile them from source? The vast majority of GNU/Linux users obtai...

You will not see your password when entering it in the terminal. This is completely normal.

Re: Where would we be without Ubuntu
Well, you can't deny that Ubuntu has had its impact on Linux and has increased its popularity. However, it is also a fact that Canonical have always taken more from Linux and the FOSS community than they've given back. There certainly are a lot of other distributions and companies that have contribu...

Re: Prediction: Linux stock rises in 2016 and beyond
You can't really draw any conclusions out of that because 1) most Linux users obtain their software only through official repositories as opposed to downloading it from a website 2) it is a source code tar archive requiring manual compilation which is something a lot of Linux users, especially the n...

Re: Atom 1.0 released
Looks like a great editor but somehow it won't let me type a backslash ("\"). When I press the appropriate key combination (alt gr + ß, German keyboard layout) it collapses the current line instead of printing a backslash. Unfortunately the program is not that useful to me without being ab...
