Re: What does LTS really mean? The 5 years question.

Guys, it's even worse than what all of us think: snapshot1.png This is an excerpt (top left corner) of the large Ubuntu table found on Distrowatch at http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ubuntu :o If this is true then Clem really has to hurry releasing MInt 18 or End of Life comes before th...

Re: When will Mint have KDE 5?

Has anyone [here] tried to do this? From a website called hackthesec and with all these typo's or grammar errors the guy is making? He is a Linux Administrator and Security Expert, but still: No, thank you. Well, you're obviously american -- and yes, 'american' is a typo on purpose because of my di...

Re: [SOLVED] USB input in car stereo

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but if it is, so be it. My car's stereo has a USB input. I've been using a USB flash drive in it for music. If I leave it plugged in when the car is off, will it drain power away from the car's battery? I ask because when I'm listening to it, the flash drive light...

Re: What does LTS really mean? The 5 years question.

But looking around here on the forums, and it's not different on forums of other distro's, people always want the latest and greatest of everything. I agree with you. But companies are the way of making business with Linux. Canonical needs this market and hence the 5 years support. Yes, I ge...

Re: How can some Mint apps do root tasks w/o privs?

Two weeks ago I installed OpenSuse leap in a VM, just to try something new, and I noticed that also there the update manager does not ask for credentials. When I asked about it in the forum telling this would jeopardize the system, I got a lot of comments. Ridiculous was one of the more friendly wor...

Re: What does LTS really mean? The 5 years question.

Wow, I did not expect this when I wrote my story last night. I did expect more complains than what I received so far. Yes, Killer de bug, you are right, for companies a 5 year support would be ideal, I fully agree. But looking around here on the forums, and it's not different on forums of other dist...

Re: What does LTS really mean? The 5 years question.

I was just thinking about the 5 and 3 years and the 9 months support of the new (*)Ubuntu, and later on Mint. Okay, I admit, 9 months is way too short, that has to be improved to at least 3 years as well. But even 3 years, guys? Isn't that more than enough? It's the week of the release of the Buntu'...

Re: Vim. To remove empty in the file.

This should help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7495932/how-can-i-trim-blank-lines-at-the-end-of-file-in-vim Note that if you want to remove ALL empty lines, not just trailing ones (i.e., per subject line rather than text of post) then the answer is rather simpler. Something like :g/^$/d for f...

Re: LibreOffice - latest update?

Well, with theme I was not referring to the themes inside LibreOffice (although they also could be causing it I guess) but more the theme of your whole Linux installation. In LibreOffice go to: Tools -> Options -> Personalization. You can install themes here. In Linux it depends which desktop you ar...

Re: Mint 14 KDE freezes frequently

I had to check it first, and I was correct concerning the versions of Mint being LTS releases, your Nadia (Mint 14) is NOT an LTS release and it must be out of date ages ago. (May 2014) Why still use such an old version? Is it that your computer can't handle newer versions because the release gets t...

I also use the 5.0.3.2 version and in my Calc the comments field has a light yellow color so I can see very clearly what is comment and what is cell contents.
Can it be you are using a theme which causes your problems?

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus has been released!

Well from what I can see all packages say latest version and that also matches what is installed on this computer. You either can't or won't understand what Cosmo is saying: The Ubuntu LTS releases are supported for 5 years, LTS stands for Long Term Support. Now, these 5 years support are only vali...

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus has been released!

I just installed Kubuntu in a VM and while working on setting a new desktop picture from my holiday pictures, stored in my host, Plasma crashed. I have been using Open Suse Leap in a VM for 2 weeks and nothing, really absolutely nothing, crashed. I use Kubuntu for 5 minutes and Plasma crashes. I do ...

Strange behavior after re-install

Hi all, I have had a busy weekend installing, re-installing, re-re-installing OpenSuse Leap 42.1. Yes, I know, I was tempted by the dark side. I used Leap for 2 weeks or so in a VM and it was amazing. It was great, it's stable, looks good, I wanted it. But I did not manage to get it installed on bar...
