Re: "Environment" Variables

Linux Mint 17.2 KDE does have a .profile file. Are you sure you're looking correctly? (e.g., have you toggled display of hidden files) If for some reason you have deleted the .profile file, you can just copy it anew from /etc/skel/. cp -iv /etc/skel/.profile ~ I can see .bashrc and .bash_profile bu...

Confused about Bash startup files

... Linux ships with a ~/.profile file. You can set environment variables there. You can also create a ~/.bashrc file to do the same but read the header in ~/.profile to understand impact. Which configuration files are read by your shell and in what order depends on what shell you use. Consult your...

Re: How to make new bitmap fonts available.

Hi "Tuxkid", It would help to have more specific system setup information, see FYI below. > inxi -c5 -xFz System: Host: Tui Kernel: 3.16.0-38-generic x86_64 (64 bit, gcc: 4.8.2) Desktop: KDE 4.14.2 (Qt 4.8.6) Distro: Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela Machine: Mobo: ASUSTeK model: M5A97 version: Rev 1.xx Bios...

How to make new bitmap fonts available.

Even if nobody agrees, IMHO, lucida-typewriter is the best mono-spaced font to use in terminal windows and scripting. I found an rpm which I converted with alien and installed. As a result, I get these files # ll /usr/share/fonts/bitmap total 248 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13548 Jun 17 2015 lutBS08.pcf....

Re: Mint 17.2 and Intel graphics

I hope you realize that Mint by default prevent you from updating "critical" packages like Xorg, if you updated your system from command line there is a chance that your system is different than the 65% of the rest of people around the forums. The only mention of Xorg I can see in the logs for apti...

Re: Mint 17.2 and Intel graphics

Indeed, try to downgrade the kernel to 3.19.x then 3.16.x and see if it helps.. I misread my inxi output. The only kernel option I have is 3.16.0-38. So either it's not updated since installation or grub.conf isn't maintained in the manner I'd come to expect. I tend to go with the former since I do...

Re: Mint 17.2 and Intel graphics

The safest way to update your "drivers" (kernel modules) is to upgrade the kernel from the update manager. Start with the newest 4.x, when it does not work is matter of reboot and choose an older kernel from the boot menu. Is that referring to anything different from sudo aptitude update sudo aptit...

Re: Mint 17.2 and Intel graphics

Thanks ylene. Hello... I do not believe that you will have any problems using a machine with Intel Graphics. I am writing this on my second such system, a Skylake system based on a Core i7-6700T: .... As you can see from the above, it is showing GLX rendering using Intel Skylake driver software, whi...

Mint 17.2 and Intel graphics

It tells us here: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/intel-graphics-installer-linux-1.2.1 that there is "No support is provided for the Graphics Installer on Ubuntu 14.10 ..." Since Mint 17.2 uses the Ubuntu trusty repositories, does that indicate that I can't install Intel's graphics driver/s? ...
