Re: Virtual Terminal BLACK SCREEN & Other Issues 17.3 Cinnam

Did you check whether you get a tty with nomodeset?
Is it possible that you are using a different driver than in the live dvd?
Put this line in your ~/.bashrc file:
PS1="\e[0;36m \u \W \$ \e[m"
It will turn your prompt line cyan.

Re: Virtual Terminal BLACK SCREEN & Other Issues 17.3 Cinnam

Sounds like a graphics driver problem, have you tried adding "nomodeset" as a kernel boot parameter? Are you having the same problem on the live dvd? Try writing to the tty device file manually: echo hello | sudo tee /dev/tty1 Then switch over to tty1, do you see any text? You can also try...

Re: Undoing unwanted installation of "unattended-upgrades"

Hi D-man, no, what I meant was that deleting the package was certainly enough to make it not work. If that is what you want, then it is okay.
In fact, I don't think it is enabled by default, even though it is installed.

Re: Undoing unwanted installation of "unattended-upgrades"

D-man, I think you need to configure unattended-upgrades to enable it. You also deleted its package, so it certainly cannot work now. xdicey, you can hold back the package using update manager. Right click on the package, then select "ignore updates for this package". The list of ignored p...

Re: Running apps not showing up on the Task Bar

Maybe you unintentionally removed the window list applet.
Try this: right click on the panel, then "add applets to the panel". Search for "window list" and add it to the panel.

Re: Cinnamon crashed, stuck in fall back mode

Hmm but if you reinstall you won't know what the problem was and it might happen again. It's your choice though...
Anyway, you can try starting cinnamon manually from the terminal:
cinnamon --replace
See what error messages you are getting.

Re: Reinstall default trackpad driver

To uninstall the module and restore the old one, type: sudo dkms uninstall -m psmouse -v elantech-x551c Then you will probably need to reload the old module: sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse To remove it from the dkms tree completely, use "remove": sudo dkms remove psmouse/el...

Re: Cinnamon crashed, stuck in fall back mode

There is an option in Synaptic Package Manager under the Package menu called "Force Version". You can use it to revert each package to an earlier version. However, this might not let you roll back to the version you actually had before the upgrade. It would probably be best if you installe...

You can pass the option "initialdir" when calling askopenfilename() to make it open a specified directory. In other words:
name=tkFileDialog.askopenfilename(initialdir="/home/norman/songbook")
name=tkFileDialog.askopenfilename(initialdir="/home/norman/Videos")

Re: Linux Mint doesn't shut down most of the time

Hi al, you can edit the upstart job definition file for modem manager: /etc/init/modemmanager.conf. Modify the line "stop on stopped network-manager" so it looks like this: "stop on stopped network-manager or runlevel [0]". This should stop modem manager when entering runlevel 0 ...

Re: Suddenly, X server cannot be started

It also says "hardware accelerated OpenGL", so it should be for 3d as well. However, you already have a driver installed, so why look for a new one? Also, why don't you use the Driver Manager to install drivers? Read this: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/mint-cinnamon-fi...

Re: Suddenly, X server cannot be started

Sounds like you have a problem with the file system (?) You are in read-only mode probably because this behaviour is specified in your /etc/fstab file: "errors=remount-ro", namely mount the file system as read only if errors are encountered. Maybe you would want to run fsck from the live c...
