Re: Linux Mint doesn't shut down most of the time

Have you tried shutting down from the live dvd?
Try stopping ModemManager before shutting down using "sudo service modemmanager stop".
Also, can you please try running "sudo shutdown -H now" and report back whether your computer halts normally? It should halt and print a message.

Re: Cinnamon trouble-- 17.3 Switch to Mate ?

Mate is quite stable, although it does have its own little quirks sometimes.
I tried Cinnamon in the past but didn't like it so much. Going to try again when 17.3 comes out though.

Re: create launcher to run a java program

In the launcher's command text field, try adding the word "bash" before your script name, i.e. "bash /home/steve/orDrumbox/launchDrumBox.sh".

Re: Kazam applet removed...

You mean to open the program again?
You can find it in the menu, probably under the "Sound & Video" sub-menu.
Another option is to use alt+f2 and enter "kazam" in the text box.
Yet another possibility is to open a terminal window and type in "(kazam &)".

Re: Major Linux Problems on the Desktop

Any operating system can be said to not be ready for desktop use, because no software is perfect. So we shouldn't use any operating system then?
Linux distros certainly have problems, but so do other operating systems, and in the end it all comes down to individual needs and preferences.

Re: Fixing jGrasp path

Looks like it cannot find the java compiler (javac).
Do you have openjdk installed?
You won't need to modify the PATH variable unless installing javac doesn't fix the problem.

Re: 17.2 Mint Cinnamon GUI Issue w/Radeon HD 7640G Graphic C

Why do you believe it has to do with the graphics card? Could you have possibly changed something in its configuration? Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 on the login prompt to get to the terminal (Alt+F8 takes you back to the login screen). Check whether your internet connection is working from there. Also, try en...

Re: How to remove a broken option to login with GNOME as DE?

The login desktop entries are configured through files that can be found in /usr/share/xsessions. You will need to rename the file that corresponds to the gnome desktop. So from a terminal window, navigate to that folder using "cd /usr/share/xsessions" and list its contents by typing in &q...

Hi Alyana, check that you are part of the sudo group. To do this, open a terminal window and type in "groups". Do you see the word "sudo" in the output line?

Re: How to install a SCANNER-driver *.tar.gz

You need to locate the executable file, perhaps something like "install.sh", then from the terminal enter "sudo ./install.sh" to launch it.

Start it from the terminal with "sudo driver-manager" to see possible error messages.
You can also try logging in again in case you haven't already.

Try typing "ibus-daemon &" in the terminal or entering "ibus-daemon" into the alt+f2 text field.
Logging out and in again could also work.

Re: Executing .run file to install

Are you sure that you are on EFI mode? According to the log you pasted above, rEFIned looks for the ESP partition but doesn't find it on the hard drive.
It is possible that you are on legacy mode or that your computer does not support EFI at all, and that's why it cannot proceed.

Re: Where Did KeePassX Get Installed To? Can Make Portable?

1. It should be located in the menu, probably under Accessories. If you don't find it try running it from the terminal or using alt+f2. 2+3. The downloaded packages are located in /var/cache/apt/archives. You will see there the keepass .deb file, which contains the keepass binaries. Open it by right...

Re: Fallo del Gestor de Aplicaciones

Try removing the lists of packages that apt-get previously created:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
And then update the package lists:
sudo apt-get update

I'm sorry that I cannot write in Spanish, I used Google Translate to understand your post : )

"eject -i 0" to enable it again.

The CPU usage in the video looks normal in general, except at the end when Firefox was supposed to remain idle after you had closed the Youtube tab. Anyway, the overall processor use was fairly high so no wonder the fan went full speed, but this is normal. What happens if you leave the computer idli...
