Re: How to escape Google

Oh hey, fellow Google avoider!
I use Pale Moon and SeaMonkey, and they are not associated with Google in any way. I use Startpage as a search engine.

Re: Curious

Nobody is invisible. That's true, but it doesn't mean everybody is equally visible. Some of us show more of ourselves than others. And it also does not mean that it doesn't matter who we hand our data to, and how much we give them. We can, of course, decide that we don't care: that's our right too!...

Re: Tea - questing for a good cup

I have never been able to acquire a taste for tea. Tried to once but it is no substitute for a good cup of coffee. You'll never enjoy it as long as you see it as a substitute, and not as something that can be enjoyable in its own right. Tea makes very poor coffee! But then, coffee makes rotten tea,...

Re: uploading pics/screenshots

I'd always pick jpeg, never png, because the file size is smaller, and you may still need to resize and/or compress. This image is over 80 KiB, so that's possible: viewtopic.php?f=58&t=164690&p=1171304#p1171304

Re: Curious

Every time an end-user enters into the world online there will always be information leaching of what an end-user is doing. Apple / Google / Microsoft and everyone else that is cloud base. I sure don't agree with it but unfortunately the only way to stop it is to disconnect from the WWW and then st...

Re: Tea - questing for a good cup

I agree that making tasty tea from bags is possible if the bags are of sufficient quality, and Twinings makes decent tea in bags... but it's not unthinkable that the version they ship to the US could be different in quality. I like Yorkshire, as well. I have a big tin box of Gold sitting next to my ...

Re: Linux Mint: updates and installations what can I uninstall without trouble

Moem yes I did read the manual but it seems that wasn't enough for me to understand, in fact this manual is very summarize in my opinion, maybe you can give me a link for a more detailed manual? It's a simple manual, because Mint is simple to use. There is not much listed as things you need to do, ...

Re: Linux Mint: updates and installations what can I uninstall without trouble

in windows if I need to make any update I go to my windows update and for other software that are not windows I have a program that checks for update in real time. That's right. And in Mint, there's the Mint updater, that will update your Mint but also any and all software that was installed throug...

Re: [Resolved] Autoupdates

I don't think age is a prerequisite when it comes to not seeing that big blue i telling you that there are updates awaiting. I have to agree. My mother is 77 and updates her Mint happily and regularly, because, as she says, it's very quick and she doesn't even have to shut the computer down afterwa...

That's not entirely fair. We all knew it would NOT be around forever, and it was not at all a surprise that support ended.

Re: Linux Mint: updates and installations what can I uninstall without trouble

Moem, when you say to me "trust that Mint is fine just the way it is" maybe this is the way you are in life, me I don't, I am a mistrustful person by nature and even more in relation to computer. I don't use Google or Facebook because I don't trust them. I don't have a smartphone because I don't wa...

Re: Linux Mint: updates and installations what can I uninstall without trouble

Moem I don't agree with you when you said"I think you are making this too difficult", I need to know what I am doing and how it works and be able after a long time to do what I do on window (and even better I hope..). Cheers. Sure. But you don't have to CHANGE ALL THE THINGS in order to make Mint a...

Re: Linux Mint: updates and installations what can I uninstall without trouble

I think you are making this too difficult. What you want is pretty much how Mint already works. All you need is just one account: the standard user account, created during install. When using this account, you can make changes to the system, but only by typing your password.
