Re: Move 'downloads' to external drive

You should be able to drag and drop using the default Nemo file manager. The launcher folder at the bottom left called "Files" should be single-clicked to open Nemo. A 2nd instance of Nemo should be opened and the dual-paned method should work.

Re: Yes I have Malware - no Doubt

It's good you had a backup drive.

If it's not infected, just clone that over to the infected drive which should erase the problem.

I would consider stop using an automatic sign in to websites that involve financial transactions.

Re: How change mouse cursor size,

Which desktop environment are these instructions for?

In Cinnamon it's "System Settings" from the User Applet. Then choose "Mouse and Touchpad". There are pointer size and speed options there.

This has been raised many times and by far the simplest solution is pcloud. My solution was a little more drastic, I dumped my iphone in favour of android.
Yes, dumping all Apple products would solve many problems.

There's always Oracle VM VirtualBox which is available in the Software Manager. It's always worked well for me.

XP-refugee, the above post is good, but if you can't use a USB stick, then use DVD, not CD.

Re: Not sure on Partitioning

What Mint version are you installing. If it's 19 then it shouldn't be asking to create a Swap partition. If it's 18 then set the Swap partition equal to RAM size. You can't boot normally now because you changed the Master Boot Record by deleting Ubuntu and grub update wasn't run. When you install Mi...

Re: Installing Mint on secondary drive

Your plan has a side benefit. If that secondary drive connects externally you can use it on any machine. One reason I am such a fan of usb docking stations. During start up press F12, pick the device, and go. The original OS and original machine remain unchanged. Sounds even better, keeping the SSD...

Re: Not sure on Partitioning

Don't know how to go about this. Not going to increase or decrease spacewise in Windows 7. Leaves me with two partitions. One housing Ubuntu which has 18 GB and the other Free space with 79 GB. I want to combine these two and replace Ubuntu with Linux Mate. But when installing and come to the 4 opt...

Re: Should I upgrade my kernal?

Hi gm10. When do you think kernel 4.18 or 4.20 will become mainstream for Mint 19.x :) What do you mean with mainstream? As mentioned by Schultz , 4.15 will remain the LTS kernel for the support duration of LM19.x, with 4.18 as the current HWE kernel only being supported for a few months. So, if an...

Re: Installing Mint on secondary drive

The VM option is always there. We don't want to create a dual boot situation. Considering a 120GB SSD is less than $30 and I would use it if he didn't want it then perhaps that is not the best option. Booting up Win 10 then the VM to try out Mint does take time. The original plan I should disconnect...

Re: Should I upgrade my kernal?

Unless you're having a specific problem that kernel 4.18 or 4.2 is supposed to fix, then it's best to leave it 4.15 because the Mint development team thinks it's best for most people. They are the experts  You can always do a web search on what those 2 kernels are for and see if it applies ...

Re: Dual boot Windows 7 linux mint 18.3 and linux 19.1

I tried to upgrade Linux mint (Cinnamon) 18.3 to 19 because I was experiencing many problems with 18.3. While doing so I managed to loose the grub and I could not reset it. I then decided to do a fresh install of version 19.1 but I kept Windows and Mint 18.3. This was successful but now I have all ...

Re: Not sure on Partitioning

Wouldn't it be best to leave the Windows partition alone in this case. Then unallocate the Ubuntu partition and install Mint on the remaining 97 Gigs. I assume a swap partition won't be created if installing Mint 19/19.1 Could also only use half of that 97 Gigs for Mint and have the unallocated left...

Re: slimjet playing mp4 online videos

I would suggest renaming the original libffmpeg.so to libffmpeg.so.bak before placing the new file there.

If the web browser doesn't work right after changing files then they can remove the new file and rename libffmpeg.so.bak to the original name libffmpeg.so

Re: Some content Won't play in browser

I can confirm that the libffmpeg.so file that the latest version of Slimjet (21) uses is the same as Chromium 70. That file should replace the one Opera 57 uses and should fix the video issues. That seems the easiest method when starting from scratch since Chromium is now version 71 and they don't m...

Re: Applications group Menu Displays Color Confetti

Your system can be upgraded to 2 Gigs RAM. I would suggest that first before trying out Cinnamon, MATE or XFCE.

You might be able to get Cinnamon to run ok with 2 Gigs. MATE or XFCE would run better.

I suggest Cinnamon on 4 Gigs RAM.
