Re: Ooops. Lost my mintUpdate daemon and applet

If you are at System Tray, just click on it, to highlight it, and go to the bottom and click Add to panel.

There should be a button beside the lock that's white with a green center, if it's activated.

The 2nd one I listed is in the same Preferences section as Applets, called Startup Applications.

Re: Ooops. Lost my mintUpdate daemon and applet

Thanks again! yes I still have the same issue. I thought I saw something about a log file above or maybe I'm knee jerking on that. I can show processes up after fresh reboot if useful. I still have to invoke manually. I don't see anything on the gui for the update manager for auto starting. The two...

Re: ACEPC T11 No Sound

Hi Marie,

You're not doing the code tag properly.

Use the code button first when the message box is empty.

The cursor will be placed in the middle of the code brackets.

Then paste the information.

Re: Cannot burn Mint 19.1 .iso to disc or USB. Shows as inode directory

You need to go to your Firefox "Preferences" section and under "Files and Applications" choose your download directory. I have it default to Downloads, but also clicked "Always ask you where to save files".

That way I can always choose where it downloads.

I wonder if "Additional Repositories" will continue to update.

I certainly don't expect Rosa and Trusty to continue.

Re: MacBook 2, 1 Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1 64 Bit Hangs on Grub

You're running that with only 1 GB RAM. That could be a real issue. The best course of action would be to have at least 2 GB for the Xfce or MATE desktops. For Cinnamon desktop, 4 GB is best but 3 might be fine. From: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1702392 *Core 2 Duo* - Maximum Ram that can b...

Re: gThumb seems to no longer be an image editor

I downloaded GThumb from the Software Manager and the edit functions work. It's version 3.6.1

The edit file button is at the top right.

Re: Firefox download window not responding

Hi GuidoE, From the bugzilla link you provided, this is posted by Jared Wein Comment 79 • 22 days ago The patches within bug 1492326 are too large to get uplifted to 65 and it is unclear what within that patch set fixed this. At this point in 65 we're unlikely to fix this bug, and since this bug is ...

Why not try installing Mint 19.1 with Cinnamon.

I'm running it perfectly fine with a dual core 1.8 GHz processor and 4 GB RAM.

Re: Very Slow Boot

That's ok Kevin, i appreciated all the help. I'll just keep Windows 7 on this unit for as long as possible. I know Windows is stopping support for it next year, but that's just updates. I have one PC that's been running win7 for years and haven't done one update on it, and it's the best PC running ...

I'm afraid not. The laptop is becoming obsolete. Your thoughts on changing the motherboard have merit to extend its life, but I can't help much in that regard, especially when it comes to a laptop.

Re: Very Slow Boot

Computer is Dell D830 laptop with 32-bit, COR2 Duo processor,4gig RAM, 120G Hard Drive. MINT 17.3 booted up in under 2-minutes. I did a complete reformat on the hard drive, a fresh install of MINT-19.1 and now boot time is now nearly 7-minutes. Once up it runs fine but boot time is not acceptable s...

Re: Very Slow Boot

Kevin, what I'm going to do today is, clean the HD and reinstall windows 7 just to see if it will operate as it did before. If it doesn't, I'll know there's a hardware problem internally. If it does, then I'll do a native install of LMDE Cindy first, and then try the rest. Thak you for the list of ...

Re: linux fresses some time what should i do ????

One of your RAM sticks is bad or not seated properly I think.

It should come with 4 GB from factory, but your readout says:

Processes: 191 Uptime: 6m Memory: 1.66 GiB used: 1.30 GiB (78.4%)

Re: Very Slow Boot

Thanks, I'll give it a try. To bad, I really like Cinnamon, but beggars cant be choosy. ;) LMDE 3 has the Cinnamon desktop. It's the only one offered. Peppermint 9 has the LXDE desktop. Very similar to Xfce. More lightweight. Mint 18.3 could also be tried. It has Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce and KDE. The o...

I installed bikeshed, then sent sudo purge-old-kernels but received a note "command not found". Are you sure the purge-old-kernels is the correct term command? If bikeshed didn't work, then try: sudo apt install byobu then: sudo purge-old-kernels You can remove them manually one at a time as HaveaM...

You can also try some other distros to see if they work better.

LMDE 3 "Cindy" (Linux Mint Debian Edition)
Peppermint 9

There are many others.

I just wanted you to check to see how it booted into the Live session. You don't need to install it again to your computer. Re: Installing Linux Mint alongisde Windows 10 on an iMac

Thank you for the Linux Mint installation guide, which I'll certainly use. But, my main worry is if something wrong can happen when on top of the existing Mac partition/launch files the Linux ones superimpose. Probably I am using the wrong terms, but I hope you understand. To be more precise, consi...
