Re: Very Slow Boot

OK, question, you say live session, meaning just running it off of the install disk, and not installing the OS to the computer ? Correct. You already have it installed, but you can still run a Live session from the install medium without actually booting from the hard drive. Second, should I go bac...

Re: Some questions about Nvidia graphic drivers.

I wont buy anything new, i love my PC, it is a bit old but still works great with linux mint and windows 7, regarding to lagging problem, it was my own fault not graphic card's, i use google chrome as my daily browser and had "Override software rendering list" enabled on chrome://flags, looks like ...

Re: Very Slow Boot

Hi War Horse, Let's take a step back in this process. You have installed 4 GB RAM on the Dell Latitude D630 which has a dual core processor @ 2 GHz. So far so good. Let's go to the Live session from your USB or DVD and not the actual installed version. Make sure that loads properly without incident....

Sounds like this issue.

So while perhaps not a show-stopper, I'm still curious as to why Software Sources incorrectly thinks all the Debian mirrors are unreachable. :?

Re: stretch repository

Should a bug report be filed, or should I try to reinstall first. Rather than that, I'd first see if a live session of LMDE produces the same result. If it does not, then you've identified the issue is specific to your current deployment, which I suspect. The live session produces the same result. ...

Re: Triple booting Linux. How to do it? Pros and cons? Do's and don'ts

what I've often done, when replacing some system, is to simply overwrite that partition, with the installed version, of what-ever that I'm now currently interested in playing around with. - no need to format / erase / with Gparted, or similar. some of my older HDDs were quite small - - 40Gb or so -...

You'll have more forum support with Mint 19.1 since it's much more popular that LMDE 3.

Re: gparted>partition>mount is gray

I am attempting to install Mint 19.1 to an external SSD. When I create a partition on sdc, and try gparted>partition>mount, then mount is gray. It indicates that operations are pending. I tried gparted>edit>apply_pending_operations, but mount is still gray. I have found items on web that suggest th...

Re: stretch repository

Do you have your firewall on by any chance? If you do turn it off and see what happens. By firewall I mean the UFW in Cindy, not the firewall in your router. The problem persists. Turned off firewall. Checked repo. Rebooted. Checked repo again. The download speeds all say unreachable. My router's l...

Yes I have the system firewall on. It's just set to deny incoming. Outgoing is set to allow.

I will turn it off and see what happens. 8)

Re: Triple booting Linux. How to do it? Pros and cons? Do's and don'ts

One question though, I now understand how to install multiple distros alongside one another and how to use symlinks to connect them all. But, how do we safely remove one of them, like how to get rid of one distro without borking the grub menu. I'm new, so I don't know how it works, is it as simple ...

Should a bug report be filed, or should I try to reinstall first.

I get good d/l speeds with cindy, but stretch gives me unreachable for each mirror.

Basis (Stretch) via http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian works just fine... as far as I can tell. If you click on the link just mentioned by me, you will see that a connection will be established (at least from here)... the same will happen when updating through repos. Just try your application package ...

That option shouldn't have any effect on the panel icon. If you're seeing behaviour like that (cannot reproduce) t...

Re: Ooops. Lost my mintUpdate daemon and applet

Good morning, gm10. Just checked here on the Mint 18.1 xfce system, where I had typed my previous post as well. Actually, here the item is labelled mintupdate (Linux Mint Update Manager) in the Startup Applications list. So both terms are given: mintupdate and Update Manager . This should be the la...

Re: 640x480 when installed

Thanks for prompt response. Thing is it works fine from the USB so it's a setting not a problem but I haven't (yet) found details of the USB conf system files so I can't look for what's different. The machine is worth using as it has the superior (for a writer) full-height display, that's why my ow...
