[SOLVED] How to Format Read Only USB Drive

I am using the 19 Cinnamon Beta. I try to format the drive and it says (immediately) "Finished" but it is not formatted. I see that it is Read Only and will not format etc.. How do I Format it? It is a 1TB external hard drive which I had previously made a bootable drive and thought I could reformat ...

Re: Boot Time Now 30 seconds

Boot time differences between 18 & 19 shouldn't be tremendously different "by default": maybe a few secs more or less. Being a new base, chances are a few extra services will probably have been added (thereby *maybe* adding more time). Being a new base (ie. 2 yrs newer systemd libraries), the boot ...

7-year old, low end eMachines 1831 (w/SSD):

Code: Select all

$ systemd-analyze

I see that but how long does it actually take from the power button push till you see the desktop?

What is the text for me to see my boot time.

Just loaded HPLip to the Software manager so the Toolbox is available once more. I have details regarding toner state now.

Re: Boot Time Now 30 seconds

That is just 15 seconds from the BIOS splash screen to the desktop. Finally a reasonable boot time. Does any one else get these boot times? I will reload all my computers with Mint 19 Cinnamon beta to achieve these times but was looking for a little reassurance before proceeding.

Boot Time Now 30 seconds

My boot times with 18.3 Cinnamon were consistently 55 seconds from pressing the power button to the desktop. Then when I installed the 19 beta it was a little longer to load. Now after loading 19 beta Cinnamon on yet another SSD: suddenly, the boot time is under 30 seconds. I did not enable Fast Boo...

Re: What Port is Printer

What now? I thought there could be a problem with the Toolbox so uninstalled it. Now I see that it is not in the Software Manager. Installed it manually but do not see it in the menu. There were reports which could be printed from the buttons but none with a port id. I did get a useful report called...

EDIT The printer will not print the information sheet with the printer buttons for some unknown reason, says no device connected but it is, with USB. See below.

Re: What Port is Printer

First one had no results, second one gave a list of sites referenced due to the 192.168.1.254 being a "default private IP address"

This is my home network, home router firewall so nothing fancy.

Re: Connecting To WIFI On HP Computer

Personally, I use the default install partitions. In fact I have no idea what they look like right now. I have never had a problem with that so feel no need to alter the partitions. I do not load dual operating systems. I do not encrypt the install. It is the KISS philosophy. :)

Re: Mint 19 Theming issues.

This doesnt just happen on Mate, it happens on Cinnamon as well, installed in separate partitions. The same problems do not happen on Ubuntu Bionic Mate. The cursor themes dont work. You cant change from the standard white cursor. If you select another theme, Running 19 Cinnamon and cursor theme DM...

Re: How to get rid of the microphone icon at bottom right?

Right click it and select "Quit". Then make sure it is not on the list of Startup Applications (in Settings). Also, you might be able to configure it to not appear in the tray if you can find the General Settings for the ap.
