Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

Dear Azgl1500 With all due respect , is that your calibrate procedure to compare Distro’s and draw your conclusions ? You must be joking ? I think I made it quite clear, as to how I was making those comparisons. Had I installed LMDE4 on my current new laptop, it would have run much faster. you did ...

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

Sunday ( yesterday ) I installed LMDE4 on an older version of the current laptop I am using now. ASUS TUF Gaming G73, it is 10 years old at this point, and still using a spinning platter 1tB drive. My impression when it finally quit updating, was that the Panel is strange, and does not put the icons...

Re: what are the Most Used keys on our keyboards?

it is difficult to write 40 wpm on a typewriter like that. much respect to you, sir. even on the ibm selectric ii, which struggled to keep up with me, i don't know if i averaged 40 wpm. it was always a question of watching the typewriter finish typing a sentence after i stopped typing. just watchin...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

here in Oklahoma, USA; our governor as has asked that all restaurants close their Dining Rooms, but continue to cook and serve meals out of the Takeout Windows. ( don't recall if he has ordered bars to close ) Here in my little community, we have one small clique of idiots who refuse to listen up. I...

Re: LMDE3 to LMDE4

But the free version of April works well for Ubuntu based Mint? yes, have been using it for 2 years backing up, and restoring 18.3 Cinnamon to different laptops. Just bought the full version about 4 weeks ago. It should work just as well to the same OS even if a different Desktop, although I have n...

Re: LMDE3 to LMDE4

Okay, I am back and currently using LMDE4 the experiment to use Aptik to Restore my apps from the 19.3 Cinnamon laptop only partially worked. Mostly, it did not, as the 'Lists that it wanted" were on the old laptop, so it could not find the Source Files. That, even though, the backup APTIK folder is...

Re: LMDE3 to LMDE4

The Aptik PPA's are all based on Ubuntu, so I doubt they'd work on LMDE. How would it know which to download? See the list of versions here: https://launchpad.net/~teejee2008/+archive/ubuntu/ppa TJ is one smart cookie. I am going to experiment today with using an Aptik backup from last week and pus...

The process went totally smooth: very professional; congrats to Clem & crew !! I used what has become my customary upgrade process: I boot the install media and then install the system onto the existing partitions and using the existing user name and password. The result is that the new system has ...

User added fonts should really go in the home folder ~/.local/share/fonts or even just ~/.fonts
19.3 Cinnamon already has TrueType fonts, I sure didn't put them there.

/usr/share/fonts/truetype

Re: How to Skip Grub Menu on Live LMDE 4 USB Boot?

I'm not looking at LMDE3 or 4 right now, but I should think all you need do is set the Timeout to 0 or 1.

even at 1 it would fly by so fast you could not do anything.

or, just set it to 'hidden' and go on.

Re: LMDE3 to LMDE4

It will record and save all of your apps and preferences, including the PPA stuff, and put them on to another Distro w/o even slowing down. Does LMDE support PPA? I thought that was only in "standard" Mint. Don't know, about PPA, but if it is there, Aptik will get it. I just downloaded LMDE4, and I...

Re: Update the ISO file

you would be benefited upgrading to 19.3 as a lot of improvements have been made, that make the PC faster. Roger. for myself, I did not see any difference between 19.2 beta and 19.3 Cinnamon final. Ehhh??? Now you are saying exactly the opposite!? sigh! this is why the written word does not...

Re: Timeshift, Not enough disk space.

you are asking Timeshift to do more than the normal backup.... no way would it be 8.8 tB and I hope you are directing the Timeshift storage location off of the drive that your OS is on? I always put it on my extUSB drive, which means of course, I have to plug in the extUSB drive to make backups, but...

So every 19.2 cinn ISO is the same, no matter if you dl it 1 year ago? the ISO files are NEVER changed. only updates... you would be benefited upgrading to 19.3 as a lot of improvements have been made, that make the PC faster. the Cinnamon desktop in 19.3 is smaller, and much faster!!! the appearan...

well, I'm 78 and had to make the obligatory grocery run. I saw 3 vehicles on the 1 mile stretch that composes all of our business district, our grocery store is at the far end next to the 2 banks.
