Encontré la solución en este enlace: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/15 (gracias a Pjotr), a partir del paso 10. Parece ser que LM 18.1 y la instalación del driver no se entienden bien sobre donde ir a buscar las librerías y de ahí viene el problema.
