You need to go through all the steps you take to connect.

Did you open the NetworkManager applet in the system tray?

Is the SSID of your router visible? Did you try to connect to it? Did it ask you for the network password?

Re: Asus N13 usb.2.0 wireless doesn't work...... Of course.

So you have two wireless cards, neither is blocked, and drivers are installed for both.

What exactly is not working? At what point does your attempt to connect fail?

Try the following in terminal:

Code: Select all

rfkill list all
What are the results?

Re: How to install software on Linux Mint

This must be compiled from the source code. The dependencies are listed in the Install.UNIX file. At a minimum, you need the libsdl suite and Boost libraries, and their -dev counterparts to compile it. And, of course, the entire GCC compiler tool chain. Compiling is as of yet not my turf, I'll rese...

Re: How to install software on Linux Mint

Great thread! First I would like to congratulate OP on the quite good and descriptive original port! :D As it happens, I came across a tarball with dependencies witch some happens to be already installed libraries, others are also tarballs (sdl_net), and the README file inside doesn't helps on how ...

Then it's not a zip file at all, but a web page document. Probably an error page (404) saying the file was not found.

Thanks for the suggestions JeremyB. Anyone else have any suggestions on how I can get the wifi hardblock to turn off? I have (almost) the same Acer laptop, but mine came with an Atheros WiFi chip. One thing to note - there is a BIOS setting for the soft keys. From the factory, it was configured suc...

Please post the results of: find $HOME -not -user $USER -exec ls -lad {} \; Command: sudo find $HOME -not -user $USER -exec ls -lad {} \; Note that I gave you an explicit command to type, and you added 'sudo' to it on your own. This is what caused your problem in the first place. Do not - repeat - ...

Re: The four LM17.3 Rosa editions

On my laptop I installed the Cinnamon edition and then installed KDE via apt-get. I like the feature of getting applications that were designed specifically for one and then also work quite well on the other. I would be interested to know what incompatibilities you have observed. I've already poste...

Re: How to create HD partitions in 17.3 Cinnamon?

Yes, it's an old habit from my Amiga days; I've been trained that splitting a disk into partitions makes it safer and more efficient, but are you saying it's not necessary to do so in Mint? That habit grew out of the limited cluster sizes and geometry options we had available at the time. Making ma...

Quality components are certainly available today (and have always been), but you won't find them in a $300 laptop.

Could you expand on your "designed-in bit-rot" statement? I expect my friend to still be using her NUC in ten years time... Another term for planned obsolescence. Manufacturers purposely use components with known-limited lifetimes to force your hardware to fail, timed to be shortly after the end of...

What is the purpose of each partition, and where do you want to mount it in the filesystem? Ideally, this is done before i...

Re: VLC wont let me save metadata?

The version of VLC in the repository is a fairly old one (2.1.6). Several features don't work (for example, editing the metadata of .avi files will silently fail). I'd try something else, like easytag. Again, the version that Mint has is an old one, but I believe it will work much better than VLC fo...
