Re: Not able to install audacity on linuxmint 17

It should be as simple as 'sudo apt-get install audacity'.

No PPAs needed.

Re: How to increase resolution on projector (two monitors)

Hmm... that monitor has a native resolution of 1280x1024 through a VGA interface. It *should* allow you to select 1280x1024. Some VGA cables do not pass the signals necessary to get the monitor ID (and many older monitors don't provide one). Have you tried a different VGA cable? I'm a bit confused -...

Just a hunch, but did you install Linux on a MacBook or MacBook Pro?

If so, did you remember to select the MacBook-specific keyboard layout at install time?

Re: How do I install Broadcom drivers offline with terminal?

Insert the Mint CD (or USB stick, or whatever medium you installed from), and use the Driver Manager to install the Broadcom driver just like you did during install. It will pick up the inserted CD/stick as the source for the driver.

Re: update manager - advice (not a question)

But like I said, never had a problem with a apt-get upgrade in 3 years. The problem was the dist-upgrade. You're entitled to do whatever you want with your own system. Frankly, I do things with my system that could be considered risky, but I (usually) anticipate the consequences and (usually) know ...

Re: update manager - advice (not a question)

I agree that the original post is bad advice. But, one thing the OP doesn't understand is that a dist-upgrade will often upgrade the shared libc, kernel, modules, and other stuff that pulls the rug out from under running programs. You really need to REBOOT immediately after a dist-upgrade to avoid c...

There are many ways. Simplest:

Double click on the picture, choose File->Print (I'm using gwenview as my viewer).

Re: Achieving RDP access with Mint 17.2 Cinnamon

I don't know much about RDP, but xrdp seems to be just a translation layer between rdp and vnc. I've NEVER had good results with tightvnc, on ANY platform. Too many bugs and compatibility problems. I always use x11vnc on Linux, to connect with Windows, Mac, and Linux desktops. It even works with my ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Unified Edition !

Why don't they do it? SImple. Installing multiple DEs is a bad idea. Noobs don't know the difference but developers do. Well, I'm a developer, and I do it all the time. In fact, it's necessary in order to test my apps under different DE environments. Why do you think every desktop manager for Linux...

It looks like all of those are in your browser cache. Agreed. Those are all PUA.Js.Xored, which is a ClamAV classification for "Potentially Unwanted Javascript". They could indeed be false positivies. Even if they're not, they would be harmless under Linux. In the thirteen and a half years I have b...

If dual core and Cinnamon aren't very compatible for a super beginner like me then XFCE is definitely my choice. From what you've described, I think your machine is up to the task for any Linux desktop, including KDE. Dual core is not an issue. 4GB RAM is plenty for most things. Radeon graphics wil...

Re: Virtual Box Can I adjust the memory on the fly?

The amount of RAM is one of several aspects, from which the activation code depends. Adding a hard drive, upgrading sound or video card, add/remove RAM, upgrade CPU... any of these can force a reactivation, and is a potential trigger for Windows to refuse access to your own machine. If you run Wind...

Of course I understand the need for security measures in the workplace, but not at home, especially if I'm the only one here :) But you're *not* the only one there. If your PC has a network connection of any kind, then there are MILLIONS of others right there with you, trying to get in... ;) EDIT: ...
