Re: Cinnamon 17.3 Low, muffled speaker sound

The Driver applet is supposed to have some intelligence, I believe. The only time you see a driver there is when a proprietary driver is installed. If it sensed the need for a proprietary driver it is supposed to offer some options. As a next step I would search around for Linux related posts for yo...

Re: Cinnamon 17.3 Low, muffled speaker sound

I'm seeing two instances of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo. Under Port, one has the Speakers tab selected, and the other has HDMI / DisplayPort (unplugged) I'm far from an expert and I hope someone jumps in but I think this is a problem right off the bat. On my computer "Built-In Audio Analog Stereo"...

Re: [Help] Upgrading from LM 17.3 Cinnamon to 18

It looks like you have some applications that are going to cause problems. I'm far from an expert but are you sure you need to go to 18 right now? Are you having problems? What ever you do make sure you have a Live CD that you've tested, near at hand in case of disaster. If your insistent about proc...

Re: Login Widow Preferences Primary Monitor Setting Mint 18

Oh Great Lord of the Display as usual you are right. There had to be something fluky I did. Yes, everything works with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace . Here is a listing of my testing. Starting from scratch with an unmodified /etc/mdm/Init/Default . Ctrl-Alt-Backspace is used to Logout between each step. No mod...

RESOLVED: Login Widow Preferences Primary Monitor Setting Mint 18

'roblm', I apologize for spinning your wheels. When I was testing I was doing the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to log out and test the change and what I have found is you need to do a full restart. so Here's what I have: Linux Mint Dispaly settings: Laptop 'Use Display unchecked' 'Primary Display unchecked' E...

Re: Login Widow Preferences Primary Monitor Setting Mint 18

I should have realized once i posted a display issue my savior would reappear. Just to let you know after the resolution saga I did another $50 to Mint. I wanted to put it in "roblm's" but I never saw the option. I did however mention it to Clem in a reply to his thank you email. Anyway enough brown...

Login Widow Preferences Primary Monitor Setting Mint 18

I just did a clean install of Mint 18 XFCE. I run on a laptop with the lid closed and use an external monitor. The Login screen does not appear on the external monitor I must open the laptop to see the Login screen. I never had this issue in Mint 17.3 XFCE. My display settings are Laptop 'Use Displa...

Re: Linux Mint 18 How to Persist Display Settings

Take a look at this thread. If you can get it to work it's just a single line entry in an existing file.

Re: Xfce 18?

Being a recent convert to Mint I think people need to be nurtured and mentored to the benefits of Linux and freedom from proprietary OS's.

That is a very interesting idea. I would think that sooner or later you have a nice Gparted session to clean things up.

Re: Xfce 18?

I have a machine I've been resurrecting and I put Mint 18 Cinnamon on it to get started. I want to switch it to XFCE 18. If I do the install and then restore the Home directory and Software with Mint back Up from back ups made in the Cinnamon version am I creating a sort of polluted environment in m...

Re: Xfce 18?

I'm sorry what I meant was Load stable Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon. Then add the XFCE desktop files with the Software manager. Then when you log in select XFCE instead of Cinnamon. I'm very new to this so I guess you could also be saying that the difference between Cinnamon and XFCE is much more that jus...

Why can't you just install Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon Stable and then use the Software Manager to install XFCE?

Re: Scaling Display Properly

Hey savior! Here is my latest command format: xrandr --output HDMI1 --panning 1920x1080 --transform 1.055,0,-56,0,1.07,-32,0,0,1 Right hand side still a problem if I don't use 'panning'. If I mess too much with 'a' I end up hanging up video and have to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. Cursor Problem Problem with...

Re: Scaling Display Properly

I think I remember that happening occasionally when I did some testing of xrandr transform commands in the past, along with other glitches. However, I just tested your xrandr command and there was no change in the cursor. Log out and back in and retest the command. I don't know if your TV using a 1...

Re: Scaling Display Properly

Once again my thanks and gratitude for sticking with me. I have found the perfect combination: xrandr --output HDMI1 --panning 1920x1080 --transform 1.05,0,-55,0,1.07,-35,0,0,1 There is a slight problem I neglected to mention in my previous post. As I apply the setting my mouse pointer begins to dis...
