Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

I went to create the .xbindkeysrc file in the home directory. What do I use to create that?

The file system in Linux is slightly different from Windows and it takes some getting used to. When I'm done configuring things, I'll have a good handle on the system.

Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

I noticed there was an app called xbindkeys-config. Would this be useful? I tried it here, but it was giving segmentation faults first and when I got that fixed I couldn't enter mouse button events—only keyboard events. So I decided not to mention it :) OK, I'll stay away from that one. Does the mo...

Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

When installing xbindkeys, I noticed there was an app called xbindkeys-config. Would this be useful? I'll give this all a try after I understand your instructions well. I'll run xev again to make sure I know which button is which. Does the mouse state always remain m:0x0 regardless of the button bei...

Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

I didn't realize that was a test window. Yes, every button did something so I guess it recognizes all of them. I can post all the results if it matters but it's loooooonnng.

Thanks for the tip to simply copy the text from the window.

Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

Ouch, it looks like Linux Mint is using an older version of xev that can't filter on buttons. Please run the command like this and that should do the same: xev -event mouse | grep -B2 button As for the other command you ran, you should copy it without the leading "$" character. That indicates the c...

Re: Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

First I'd say test if the mouse buttons can all already be detected. Run this command from the terminal, which should pop up a test window where you can click, and it will show registered button events in the terminal. xev -event button Events will look like the following: ButtonPress event, serial...

[SOLVED] Using The Additional Mouse Buttons?

I have a Logitech Performance MX mouse. It has buttons all over it. 9, I think, all programmable. In Windows I can use them for any purpose I want. An internet search found something called Btnx and another something called Xinput. Neither looks to be suitable for this. What can I do to configure th...

Re: Wine Needs Runtime and Silverlight

If it absolutely requires Silverlight, then it's NOT going to run in Wine. Pipelight, while somewhat of a replacement for Silverlight, is not a complete replacement because it does not do the DRM enforcement that Silverlight does. Sorry, but if you really need Silverlight, MS Windows is the only en...

Wine Needs Runtime and Silverlight

I am using Mint Cinnamon 17.3. There is a Windows application that I need to run in Wine. At installation, it says it requires MS WSE 3.0 Runtime and MS Silverlight. How do I get those installed in Wine? I see the popular replacement for Silverlight is Pipelight. Will that run in an application that...

Re: GoogleEarth

There may be a software package but I just use Google Maps and click on the 'Earth' option in the lower left of the map. There's nothing to install, just go there in your browser.

Re: Panel Location/New Panel

When you click on 'Add Panel', there should be a transparent bar at the top and/or bottom of the screen. Click on that to add the new panel there. As for moving the panel to the side, that feature is not implemented yet in Cinnamon. However, someone is working on that. You can follow the developmen...

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

I went with Mailwasher because ultimately it's what I like. Yes, the TB filter does the trick. Maybe I'm still too used to the Windows vulnerability but I still want to preview things before pulling them onto my computer. I may still try Spamassasin yet. Thanks for the link, Kyphl. I will read that ...

[SOLVED] Panel Location/New Panel

I'm getting used to Cinnamon. I definitely like it. Now I'm getting into refinements. I went to add a new panel to see what it did. I get a message on the screen that says to choose a panel location. I can click all over the main panel or the screen and nothing happens. Also, I wanted to move the ex...

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

OK, I bit the bullet and installed Wine and Mailwasher. Everything works fine except I can't figure out how to get MW to open Thunderbird after processing mail. It looks like I need to write a .bat file to open it outside Wine. Has anyone done that?

Thanks for the replies. I still may give Spamassasin a try. Does it preview emails on your server the way Mailwasher does?

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

I am not aware of a Linux programme that will do what Mailwasher can, however, one alternative would be to let your mail stay on your server and access it there. You can even write and send mail from your server. It comes down to what is convenient. In the meantime, let Thunderbird look after you. ...

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

In Windows, viruses and such are a concern. I guess it isn't so much the case in Linux. That is true, however, being careful has never hurt anyone. I too have used Mailwasher for many years as you can gather from the version numbers cited and I use it to this day. It also comes in handy when someon...

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

The most useful feature of Firetrust's Mailwasher programme is that you can preview emails while still on the server which gives you the option to delete. Spam should be caught by your ISP's spam filter which you can configure for your requirements. Firetrust made several attempts to create a versi...

Re: Is Spamassasin An Alternative For MailWasher?

I doubt that you will find a tutorial for TB's junk filter. The use is simple: If you have spam, mark it as such. After some time the junk filter has learned to mark it alone. I've been using it for a couple of days and it's probably 98% accurate already. I just glance down the list of removed spam...
